Starter motors *could* be a better alternative to fan motors in my opinion.
I had my TDI starter apart yesterday (clean and lube to shut it up) and it is a sturdy little motor, however no cooling at all, I don't know why you couldn't cut some holes in each end and put a fan on the drive shaft to keep things under control. I don't know how efficient they would be . . . . or life span when cooled . . . . Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Also Floor polisher motors, or make friends with someone at a fork lift place?
