A VW Bug is not an economical car...a little too clever engineering...lots of problems with VW's I found in the past. I worked in a VW "hospital" as a mechanic and got to know them very well...They are not long term economical in any sense of the word. As to the Firebird...why bother? Unload it and get some cheap used economical car and join the fun.
