How a starter motor is constructed is going to have as much of an affect on the cooling then simply the lack of holes.
Starter are powerful little motors, they might draw 100 to 500 amps for a second or two (1-6 hp), and because of that are designed with heavy soft copper/lead brushes insted of carbon, bronze bushings insted of ball bearings or roller bearings, and heavy solid resin around the windings to keep them from moving, the motor in my citicar is 3.5hp and is the size of a healthy water melon.

go with a motor designed for contuinued use.
