The first car I got that was something I really wanted, rather than just what I could afford, was an Austin-Healey Sprite. (Not the BugEye, but the subsequent model.) Probably counts as the first eco-car, too. I think it would get 30-40 mpg, even the way I drove it. Had a couple of other good British sports cars, a Sunbeam Alpine and a Jaguar XK-120, so I've sacrificed much blood on Lucas' altar.
