Duct tape it to the top edge of the windshield and let it hang off the back?
I guess you could run a couple of strips of duct tape from the back down to the car to keep it from flapping but where would the fun in that be
I have seen people haul mattresses home strapped to the top so maybe put your mattress on the roof before going to get it
