I installed mine into my '96 Metro exactly like the description and pics in this thread shows. It was 28 degrees this morning... water temp gage showed the engine was up to full temp in less than 1 mile. Augmented by my little space heater, hooked up to the same $14 outdoor timer (15a rated), the interior was toasty as well.
It's too soon to tell, but my first tank fill looks encouraging from a FE perspective.
