I don't understand why people whine so much about the price of gas, it's 1/3 or less of your cost per mile!
currently I'm getting around 42mpg with the cold, at $3.10 gallon (not sure real price) that is $0.0738 per mile for gas, my total cost per mile to drive my car is around $0.21 per mile, standard tax write off is closer to $0.47 per mile.
So I figure if I can lower that total cost per mile, then I'm doing better! to keep track of that cost I keep a note book in my car that I enter everything that I buy, gas, oil, tires, insurance, regestration, wiper blades, o2 sensor, air cleaner, it all goes in the log! I then wrote down the price I paid for the car, number of m miles on it when I bought it, and a few times a year I add up what I spent in that time, ad it all together, figure out how many miles and figure that if my car was a total loss today (burst in to flames, no insurance, whatever) how much would it have cost me per mile? 21 cents.
