Hi,

I think this is very similar to the system they have already started using in the Netherlands. The car digitally communicates with the grid, and "tells" it what it needs to charge, and the grid "decides" when it has excess power (from wind generators, etc.) and uses it to charge the batteries. If the car is charged and the system needs some more power, it can draw power from the batteries -- if you multiply this by all the electric cars that (will eventually) be driven, it can work very well.

This is the sort of thing a "smart" grid can do.
