I'm new to the ecomodding scene but I'm a long time Ford guy and can give you some good advice (if I do say so myself).

1. Reduce the Weight. - keep your car clean, On my Taurus SHO every 13.1lbs I could remove from the car was 1hp I was getting back for free.

2. remove your un-needed accessories: i.e. AC, PS, smog pump if not needed. Just having the belts off is a big improvement.

3. get lighter/smaller aftermarket rims: going down to a 14-15" rim could save some BIG weight as well as reduce rolling resistance. Just be careful not to trade traction for economy. Don't put skinny-minnies on there!

4. Keep your car up to snuff in the maintenance department: Like you said, cheaper copper plugs replaced more frequently is a big deal. Also, filters nd fluids should be top of the list.

5. If your car has dual exhaust you could reduce that down to a simple single exhaust to save 40+ lbs.
