My grandpa quit cold turkey. He smoked 4 packs of Lucky Strike filterless cigs a day. In the early 80s he had a lung collapse and the docs said if he kept smoking he would maybe live 6 months. He quit then and there. And lived another 20 years.

I've never smoked a cigarettte. But everybody around me smoked when I was growing up. Nearly everybody at work smokes. Several docs are surprised I've never smoked because they say my lungs look like that of a smoker. I have asthma too.
