Well, given that a majority of americans are clinically overweight (which is not the same as obese), it's hard to say whether on not that's really true. Sure, the biggest marathon in the country may get near 100,000 people, but that's a drop in the pond.
But that's why generalizations are great. They will always marginalize the minority, which is sort of the point
