huge amount of variation in the last couple tanks since cracking the big 30. I forgot to add that along my regular route there is a section of road construction that I end up spending time in, so that is certainly one factor |

ok... something might be going on cuz this last tank was even worse... although it may have been the pump malfunctioning - it was going MUCH slower than it should have when I filled up at sawgrass again tonight, so the reading may be off.
[edit] this tank was also marred by spending an hour in traffic trying to park at the AA Arena for the heat game vs the pacers... |

well, it seems that while closing the sunroof has an effect, it isn't especially significant, as it should have showed on this tank. perhaps my airtabs on the sunroof are mitigating the drag increase from having it open somewhat. I am thinking of adding either turbulator tape or smaller sawtooth-type tabs to the trailing edge of the deflector in front of the sunroof in an effort to combat wind noise when it's open.
the new tank is from a mobil in Davie that I have only used once or twice before. |

this tank was the first one Ive done while keeping the sunroof closed during all highway driving. tank was filled up previously from the mobil by the office, which I know Diva doesn't really like.
so basically it can be said that closing the sunroof on the highway DOES make a difference - I will find out just how much on this tank as it was from the mobil she likes the most (sawgrass), and has had most of her previous 28mpg tanks with. |

filled up today at the station in manors... the previous fill from sawgrass was really sweet! the likely reason I didnt break my previous record is that I suffered from rush-hour traffic jams for 3 days straight.

it seems as if either the station at powerline and oakland started getting higher ethanol content, or I suffered from traffic not cooperating with my efforts to draft and having to sit in heavy stop-n-go for a while, so I filled it up t the best station out by sawgrass... still though this tank did pretty good. |

the previous fill was from one of her fave mobil stations out near sawgrass, and it showed - I think the variation from the last tank and this one was entirely due to ethanol % now.
*this* fill was from the second of her fave mobil stations - one in wilton manors, which typically has some of, if not the lowest prices to be found in broward county.

this was a stop to tank up in preparation for hurricane Ike in case it came to florida, done at one of Diva's 2 fave stations. it seems that she really did not like the gas that came from the station up in coconut creek that I had to tank up at previously... probably had a higher proportion of ethanol. also, we were getting alot of wind from ike's feeder bands, so that may have been a factor. |

yep... tire pressure was a major factor in my mpg variation, as well as the stations I fill up at. there are 2 mobil stations in particular that this tc likes - probably they get lower ethanol content in their gas compared to other stations. without trying other gas brands, I think aero is now the way forward, and there is definitely alot of work to do especially on the underside... |

2nd full tank on the new tire pressure settings... had a bit more city driving this time out as well as more typical highway speeds, but still had to slow way down during a few downpours. I am thinking that tire pressure is a bigger variable in my mpg equation than driving practices... at least to a point - aero drag reduction should get me further benefits, as I know that the car has some huge issues underneath. |

first full tank with the tires pumped up to 48f/45r. my usual mix of roughly 80% hwy/20% city, with no heavy traffic issues or AC use - my sunroof was open almost 100% of the time unless it was raining hard, and I was driving pretty much normally (ie no P&G/EOC, speeds ranging from 65 to 85 on hwy) with a little extra caution as I was feeling out the tires at the new pressure.
my previous record before the increase in pressure was at about the same distance traveled but with closer to 13 full gallons expended. |

about a 50/50 mix of city/highway this tank, but seriously influenced by the need for alot of time running the AC - due to my having to go to a funeral on thursday in jacket & tie and going to a convention today in the rain. I did however check my tire pressure, and discovered that they are in the low to mid 30psi range. right along toyota specs for the stock yokos the tc came with, but not even close to the 51psi my general exclaim UHPs are capable of. guess what I am doing tomorrow ^^. |
