This fill was done at BP using regular (not super) diesel. As with the last fill... lots and lots and LOTS of little trips - as demonstrated between fill periods. Nine weeks, give or take a few days, between last fill-up and this one.

Filled up at BP with their "Ultimate Diesel" @ 5.23 PLN/litre. 685 km of the 1145 km was driven by me from Gdansk to Krakow. The other 460 km was driven by someone else that we loaned the car to while on holiday in Ireland. I know that, while loaned out, the car did mostly short-ish trips and one trip that was a bit longer.

A fairly straight run up to Gdansk, via Warsaw outskirts. Three people + luggage in the car. Some stop-n-go around Warsaw but only for maybe 20 minutes. The rest of the road was usually two-lane Polish highway. A tiny bit of driving in Gdansk and Rumia, but no more than 20-30 km. Filled up at Orlen in Rumia because that was the most decent station there. Still cold, usually around -1 to -4C while driving.

After last fill-up in central Poland, went to Gdynia via a combination of highway and motorway. In Gdynia a fair amount of stop-and-go traffic, but no more than 50 km worth (maybe 1/20th of total travel). Travelled back to Krakow via motorway and highway but had a very significant and slow detour around Lodz - VERY slow. Probably 25 km worth of slow driving or stop-n-go driving. Filled up at Orlen on the A4. All driving was done with two people and luggage or stuff in the car.

AC road trip: Driving across Germany. At this point in the trip we had about as little in the car as we ever had during the trip because we'd eaten a lot of food we'd brought with us and drank many, many litres of water we'd brought (it's damned expensive in Norway!)... As it was through Germany, lots of fairly high-speed driving. 65-75 MPH but usually around 70. I don't recall a lot of rain.

Two people in the car plus a completely full boot, full back seat and full footwells (back seat). About 125 miles of cold-start, short runs (5 miles) in the city. Driving on the German autobahn from somewhere mid-Germany to, basically, Strasbourg (FR). A tiny bit of city driving (maybe 30-40 km) with a few semi-significant tailbacks. Most of this driving was on motorways (110 - 125 kph) though about 160-200 km was in the French countryside and at lower speeds, between 60 - 90 kph. Two people and luggage in the car, A/C in auto mode, stereo on almost constantly, headlights on constantly, often with cruise control on. We stopped at an ARAL station in Taltitz, Germany, on the A72.

Cruise control was on almost the entire time except in heavier traffic or some very hilly areas... as was A/C (auto mode), headlights and stereo. 95% of the drive was on either the A4 or some autobahn. Two people were in the car, with luggage. It was fairly warm the entire time, between 20-30C.

Out of the 997 km on the clock this time, Paula and I did about 440 km to/from Belchatow and I did about 160 km to/from Katowice. So a solid third of this tank was pure short drives. Drove it up once to Belchatow and back and the rest of the time to the store and around town a bit. Swapped the winter tyres off awhile back but it was at the very end of the tank. Got it washed today so it looks good and is full of fuel. This fill-up was at the local Statoil station - 4,33 PLN/litre, 54,57 litres, 236,29 PLN (yikes). I guess that's $71.

Drove from Krakow, Poland to Bled, Slovenia by way of the Czech Republic + Austria. Filled up somewhere in Austria on the way back, after crossing most of the Austrian Alps for the second time. This trip was on winter tyres in sub-0ºC temps (usually -9ºC to -3ºC), two people in the car plus full luggage. Most of the time on motorways (A4, D2, A2, etc). Most of this trip was done with the cruise control on - I can't be bothered to drive for 13 or 14 hours "manually". I'd guess I had the cruise control on at least 75 percent of the time. This fill-up was at BP with their regular (not Ultimate) diesel. Price was 1.19€/litre.

Lodz to Gdynia to Krakow. I filled up with 9 litres of biodiesel and the rest was regular, winterized diesel. Two people in the car, on winter tyres, with temperatures between -13C and -21C the entire time. After very cold temperature of -15C to -21C got a DPFS fault. Was told by the dealership this was likely due to gelling of the diesel and that is believable considering it was quite cold and was running B15. Per the manual, drove the car fairly "vigorously" for about 20 minutes (12-15km) in "sport" mode (higher revs). When the DPFS fault occured we also got a check engine light which stayed on for the rest of the trip but it has since disappeared on its own. Filled up today, the 30th, at Statoil (last fill was at Bliska) with 100% winterized diesel. [3.99 PLN/Litre]

This was a great tank... though I am not entirely sure why. We did Belchatow-to-Krakow with two people in the car, then Krakow-to-Warsaw-to-Krakow with three people in the car (complete with snow-covered side-road side-trip) and then, finally, Krakow-to-Lodz with two people in the car. The entire time the temperature was a minimum of -5C and as low as -15C and all driving was on snow tyres. And on top of that we idled the car for at least 15 to 20 minutes while trying to unfreeze/unstick the car cover from the car. [3.97 PLN per litre (combined diesel and biodiesel costs)]

Couple of notes: Last fill-up was in October. Since then, weather has dropped from 15-20C to -10 to 10C. Had winter tyres fitted Dec 19. After fill-up in October, drove with Paula and Ania up to Belchatow (with a few suitcases for the weekend) and back, ~450km. I do not remember how good those drives were. Next 175km was in the city, short trips in relatively cool weather. Last 225km was with grandma, the cats and suitcases (boot was completely full) on winter tyres up to Belchatow for Christmas. The drives up and down were very smooth. [3.69 PLN/litre]

Note re next fill-up: First 225km was done with grandma, cats and crap in the car. Relatively smooth trip, 3.1 hrs.

This was the result of two long-ish drives. The first was driving from Belchatow to Krakow with four people in the car + associated luggage-y crap, during the day. As I recall, the traffic wasn't too bad.

The second half of the distance travelled on this tank was driving from Krakow to Lodz in the evening. Low levels of traffic and I took it pretty easy. The next day, before departing for the tri-cities area, I filled up.

Note to self: remember that most of the next tank was done with three people and luggage in the car, not two.

Driving from Krakow to Belchatow with four adults in the car and the trunk loaded with luggage/crap. Oh, and there were three contraflows on the A4 and I think two of them were stop-n-go. Then there was stop-n-go on the S1 two or three times. The normal 3.25-3.5 hour drive took 4.25 hours.

ALL city driving... and someone borrowed the car for a bit and really ruined the fuel consumption figures.

Drove back from Belchatow. On the way down I drove - as I drove on the way up - pretty sedately but I also was drafting a bit behind a truck for quite awhile. Got stuck for about 13 minutes in stopped traffic at the big intersection in Siewierz. Some rain and wind but not too much. Roughly 950 meters of elevation gained/lost. Avg speed was roughly 61 kmh.

Drove from Krakow (Shell station) to Belchatow (Bliska station). Filled up with Shell's V-Power diesel in Krakow. Drove the car pretty lightly. At the Bliska station I put 9.95 litres of B100 in the car, first time it's had more than 10% (by total volume) biodiesel in it.

Note: took off winter tyres finally. Back on: Michelin Primacy HP 205/50/R17's w/ Ribalta rims.

Roughly 950 meters of elevation gained/lost. Average speed was roughly 66 kmh.

Filled up after a mix of driving. Up (avg speed 66 kmh, 950m elevation gained/lost) and back (avg speed 59 kmh, 950m elevation gained/lost) from Belchatow, plus driving (spiritedly (top speed 151 kmh, avg speed for that 133 km trip was 72 kmh)) to Katowice airport (I would guess 400m elevation gained/lost). Marcin, my wife's cousin, drove the car back to Krakow and then Krakow to Katowice to pick us up. Mostly highway driving but I was really driving the car pretty hard while going to the Katowice airport...

About 30 km of driving in the city. Drove up (avg speed 52 kmh, 950m elevation gained/lost) to Belchatow and back (avg speed 58 kmh, 950m elevation gained/lost), stopping several times for geocaching along the way... which helps to explain the low averages this time. Traffic was fairly sedate. Filled up at the Krakow Statoil near our flat.

This was about 90-95% highway driving. Two people in the car, luggage, basically from Krakow to Lodz (avg speed 69 kmh, roughly 975m elevation gained/lost) and back (avg speed 67 kmh, roughly 975m elevation gained/lost). A little bit of driving in Krakow but not much. Filled up at Bliska. 5 litres B100, 23 litres of regular diesel. Should have equivalent of B10 in the tank now.

Another partial and then complete fill-up. The partial was done at 7988 km on the odometer (33.68 litres) and the full fill-up was done at 8494 km on the odometer (41.59 litres). This was after a mix of cold-start, short-distance drives and more highway driving with a tiny bit of motorway/interstate. I think the partial fill-up was at Statoil and the full fill-up was at a BP.

A partial fillup of 18.89 litres, odometer from 5690km to 6591. Then a full fillup of 52.28 litres at 7044km on the odometer. This was mostly Poland-only driving on highway (rather than motorway/interstate) type roads. Some stop-and-go through towns, areas of construction, etc. The second, full fillup was most likely done at the Shell in Belchatow.

This was the result of a 51 litre fill-up + a 12 litre partial fill and combined distance. All the numbers should be correct. I don't recall where we stuck the 12 in at but the remainder was at a Shell station in Krakow before we left for Meiningen, Deutschland.

Filled up at a Shell station in Austria. This was mostly highway driving except for a bit of driving in Bologna and Monselice. As I recall we crossed the eastern portion of the Alps when entering Austria, ascending to about 3450 feet from a normal driving elevation of about 400 feet. Avg speed from Monselice to Krakow was 71 kmh.
