CAR RETIRED- This car retired from service 2012.
I started having some major problems with this car early 2012.
Odometer quit working. I actually unhooked speedo cable it because it was wicking gear oil and spraying it underneath my dash.
Door hinge rusted out. I had it welded a couple of years ago but the rust progressed. Nothing to weld to anymore. I started climbing out the passenger door.
Then the throw out bearing went out in the transmission. I drove clutchless for 6 months. The starter hated me but it just kept going. I got good at it. The day my battery died at work was an interesting challenge to get home without a clutch and not being able to stop since I couldn't start it.
One day it just wouldn't start. Not worth getting fixed.
330,000 miles total. This car gave more than it should have.
IT IS DONE.

I'm starting to teach my 15 year old daughter to drive a stick shift. My mileage will be effected while she learns in this car. Part of the mandatory learning is to eventually drive efficiently. :-)
She mainly drives our Honda automatic but she specifically requested to learn in my car too. cool. None of her friends even have a standard transmission in their family. She is doing good and is proud of her accomplishments.

Weather is still working on getting better. Lots of rain for a desert.

No access to timing light, but, messed with timing a bit. A little better but not what it used to be. Getting used to the changes (New MPGuino calibration settings for speed, larger wheels, new tires, timing changes)
Lots of rain....here in the desert.

Replace both axles. CV's have been clicking since I got this car 50K miles I guess if you baby them even when they click they can last a bit more.
Replace transmission oil.

I got it emissions and inspection this week. I think they messed up my timing trying to get it to pass emissions. It is way different.

CHANGES completed:
-upped rims from 12" to 13"
-new Kumho ECO low rolling resistance tires (Larger Diameter) I only got 50k on the really noisy Sonar brand tires I had before. Not many options in 12" anymore which is one reason I changed to larger.
-tune up
-Oil Change

Had not used the headlights for a long while and had a major electrical failure/issue that worked itself out when I removed, adjusted, and checked the fuse box in the engine compartment. Something is loose. Total electrical black out when I hit the brakes and had the lights and blinker on. I lost tank data on the Guino and I think I have some extra alternator load now. I have officially exchanged my occasional second carpool member (third occupant) with a consistent one. They take turns paying gasoline. I no longer pay for gas I just pay for the cars maintenance and insurance, tires, inspection and registeration. Oh, and I do all of the driving.

I need to hear this again....I NO LONGER PAY FOR GAS!!!!!

Yahoo!!!!
Now I need to start thinking EV.

Cool mornings. Man I need to get going on a block heater before winter instead of just talking.

Car pool on board all week. Nasty head winds a few days. Some freeway traffic stoppages this week also. A few cars overheating (not mine of course) and some wrecks. Before now I had great luck with traffic. Summer heat brings out the worst I guess. My engine kill switch broke off. I have a replacement but need time to install it. Also need to check the switch on the clutch down for engine start. It seems to be flaky.

Edit: Sweet! Just made the top 10! (based on whatever the top ten definition is this week for Car, Gasoline) Get this list on the front page and I'll be famous or flame-less or something like that.

I'm noticing more power and acceleration with the latest changes- Removal of AC belt and new timing belt. Need to lighten my foot and use this new power only for good ;-). I never did check the timing but it appears to be happy. The old timing or cam/belt alignment must have been off a bit.

I'm starting to pass the motor bikes in the overall MPG list. Way cool!!!

Carpool on board 1 out of 5 days this week. Head winds both to and from work most days.

Drove to near by lake for camping on weekend. Grey Goose's first trip other than to and from work.

Timing belt broke on the way to work Monday. Put about 1 extra gallon of gas in the tank just to convince everyone trying to help that it still had gas in it (it had just over 1 gallon when I did this). Hyper milers always know how much gas they have left. I had it towed home took the day off work and replaced the timing belt. Easier than expected. Car runs great now. Has more power but I am noticing knocking. I'll admit I have no idea what the timing was set to before this happened. Probably need to check timing once I get access to a timing light and put it where I want it. Because of the extra gas this tank will be off a bit. I estimated 1 whole gallon.

Best tank so far! This is so cool!!! Especially to think most of this is with an extra person. I guess I need a higher goal now that 70 is so close.
Carpool on board 3.5 days our of 5. The point five day drive home was the best this week- no car pool weight, almost empty fuel tank, great tail wind the whole way. Also looks like the light oil is working.

Finished my MPGuino build and test. Install 6/6/09. Will be calabrating this week.

Changed filling station this fill Common Cents midgrade. All previous have been Maverik low grade. Results next fill log.

Even with the warm weather the thinner oil seems to be making the engine run cooler. I really need to get working on the grill block with options for when the weather does get really hot. Brakes seem to be ok. I haven't noticed any brake drag.

I'm liking the warm weather.
Learning the vacuum gauge a bit better.

Changed oil this weekend. Tried 5-20w. Results on next logs.
Changed front brake pads and left caliper. Need to watch for brake drag. Spring clips were kind of questionable for holding back pads.

Built my MPGuino but need this week to get it running and installed/working. Think I got a wrong wire for VSS.

Installed kill switch and remote start over the weekend. Should be able to do some easier EOC. Got my MPGuino kit! I'll build it up this week and maybe install it next weekend.

Just purchased this little beast. Needs lots of work and tlc. This first tank of fuel was used just doing basic maintenance like oil change (boy was it black) radiator flush (can you say chocolate milk?) wondering if it was the original fluid?. I purchased- New alternator. New battery. New tires (12" Sonar brand).
