During mid/late december I noticed a tyre was low on pressure, so pumped it up. Once again in the first week of January I noticed it was low, and so pumped it up and inspected it, discovering a nail.

I arranged for the two front tyres to be replaced, as the puncture was unrepairable and I did not want them to be mismatched. They were done 400 miles in to this tank. The puncture should explain some of the recent worsened economy.

The tyres I opted for are Michelin Energy Saver + in the factory standard size of 175/65R14. These should in theory offer improved fuel economy over the budget tyres removed (budget tyres will remain at the rear though). I will first run them at stock pressures (rears still at 40psi) around 30psi, then later pump them up to see how it affects road holding and economy.

The cars annual MOT will be completed in the next month or so too.

If your wondering whats gone wrong with my fuel economy, why I have slipped out of the top 10, its because I have started to lose interest, and started to long for a faster car... in the absence of a faster car, I am just driving this one harder.

However, the economy is still superb in my opinion, particularly compared with a faster car!

Oh, and its regularly 0 celsius now, with rain and its dark most of the day too!

Almost exclusively short distance rush hour city driving, with more rain and cold increasing use of heaters, wipers, lights etc. So despite it being the lowest economy tank yet its not that bad given the circumstances.

More tanks like this will be seen going forward as our driving patterns are changing.

Wow! Best tank ever - and it wasn't like I achieved it through a massive slow running motorway journey. I did up my efforts for this tank (some pulse and glide), there were a couple of 70 mile journeys and the rest were much less.

Weather is picking up so less use of electronics and quicker warm up times. This tank was mostly motorway, including two 180 mile trips.

Im particularly happy with the MPG here because I cruised quite fast (in eco terms) at anywhere between 65 and 85mph - usually around 75mph.

This fuel tank consisted of two 225 mile journeys (a few days apart) with only a brief stop halfway on both. Approximately 175 of the miles each way were on the motorway, where I cruised at an indicated 75mph (very little effort to be economical here) - 40 miles were country roads and 10 were city.

Conditions were cold (3 - 6 deg C on the first journey and 6 - 9 deg c on the second) but clear and dry, so there wasn't any use of lights/wipers etc). I think the high crusing speed will have hurt the FE, I wouldn't be surprised if the car could have topped 85 UK MPG if I had took things easier (60mph cruise like I normally do).

The rest of the tank was my usual, slower driving. Not much town or heavy traffic, but some bad wind and rain.
