Trip date Fuel economy Details
0004-01-11 33.1 Trip cost $19.50. Gas went up to $3.69/gal *ugh*. Not quite sure why the avg is so much lower this time, although I learned a hard lesson about idling in the drive thru when the avg went from 33.7 to 29.9. No cruise control for the entire trip. Used MAP and RPM gauges for load/throttle control. Practiced DWL. Perhaps cruise is actually more efficient?
2011-03-17 35.7 Trip cost $17.60. Just driving with reference to Scangauge, cruise control for most of the trip.
2011-03-20 34.4 Not sure why initial mpg on the trip back was lower, possibly due to headwind. Use of constant-load driving improved mpg over the trip, especially into the hilly areas.
2011-04-03 31.1 Return trip. Trip fuel cost: $20.80. My grandiose hypermiling plans and new route were hampered by a sudden Michigan rain/snow/sleet/thunder/crap storm, ended up taking the M-46 route, although it was mostly clear on the west side of the state. Used cruise control at 55 mph on flat terrain in the clear areas. Managed to salvage some mpg's by practicing P&G EIC for some of the trip. There is definite potential with this type of driving, as long as it doesn't wear out the trans.
2011-04-08 34.8 Trip fuel cost: $20.81 ($3.89/gal). New route, much less traffic and slightly fewer stops, at the expense of about 9 more miles total distance. Experimented with various driving styles, but found that cruise set at 55mph seems to get the best cruising mileage on flat or slightly hilly roads (~37mpg).
2011-04-15 32.2 TFC $22.60 ($4.00/gal)
2011-04-17 33.3 TFC $22.00($4.00/gal)
2011-04-22 34.1 TFC $21.40($4.00/gal). Moderate headwind.
2011-04-24 38 TFC $18.50 ($3.86/gal). No wind. Some DWL. Best MPG yet! =D
2011-04-30 36.1 TFC $19.50 ($3.96 avg cost/gal). Used a mixture of E85 and regular 87 for a blend of E20 for this fillup. Results look favorable so far. Mid-range horsepower seems diminished, but low end torque appears to have improved. Slight quartering headwind on this trip as well, best daytime MPG for this trip yet!
2011-05-01 37.7 TFC $18.80 ($3.96 avg cost/gal). E20 blend. Slight headwind.
2011-05-05 35.9 TFC $20.24(4.00/gal). E30 blend.
2011-05-09 37.2 TFC $19.60 ($4.00/gal). E30 blend.
2011-05-13 35.2 E40. TFC $20.67.
2011-05-16 35.1 E26. TFC $21.10.
2011-05-19 33.1 TFC $22.30. E26 blend. Some testing during this trip.
2911-04-10 33.8 TFC: $20.80. First drive with masking tape-grill block, noticed some promising results. Battled some strong crosswinds this trip.
