Bullet is my 1992 Silver 2nd Generation Geo Metro LSi. I've got lots of great work left to be done. Modifications are financed with aluminum can recycling money.
Build Thread:
Current Mods:
- Removed the windshield wipers. Still carried in case of rain...installed as required. RainX keeps the windows in decent shape.
- Deleted side mirrors (XX pounds saved)
-- Built a fairing with sheet metal & rubberized black spray. Looks OEM.
- Delete spare tire (19 pounds) & carry fix a flat.
1 Nov 09. Pulled passenger seat out (32 pounds)
2 Nov 09. Drained Wiper Fluid (5 pounds, 2oz.)
4 Nov 09. Put in Bosch Platinum +4 Spark Plugs and new plug wires. (116600)
4 Nov 09. Pulled Radio (4pounds, 12oz.) (116600)
5 Nov 09. Removed A/C Compressor pulley and drive belt (1.94 pounds & less drag)
Weatherstripped 1 headlight to cover gaps
6 Nov 09.
- Built cargo tray for 15W solar cell and then connected to batt thru a 7amp charge controller
--Everything seems hooked up ok....will check voltage when I get a new gauge...the regulator should deliver charge when the battery is below 13V & stop when it's > 14.2V
- Weatherstipped 2nd headlight to seal gaps
- Deleted rear speakers (1.94pounds)
22 Dec 09.
- Installed Generator Cut Out Switch
27 Dec 09.
- Put Seafoam in crank case and gas tank. Need to put in old spark plugs before I put in the vacuum system and potentially foul my bosch.
6 Jan 10.
- Oil change to Mobil 1 0W-30
- Manual Transmission Fluid change to Royal Purple Synchromax (118680 mileage)
Planned Mods:
- Finish driver's side mirror plate (flush) w/ a hole for a pencil camera to feed a small interior view screen...goal is to have driver's side rear view visibility w/out disturbing the slip stream.
- Build an air dam to partially block the intake holes under the hood.
- Complete Narrow Tires Set: Get 2 more R12 145s. Currently 2, 145s fwd & 2, 155s rear.
- Install voltmeter / ammeter / Solar Charge Mntr.
- Install switch for disabling the alternator when not required (Watch voltmeter & solar panel can take up some slack). The idea is to leave the alternator attached and the belt on, but add a switch inside the car on the rotor field control wire, effectively giving operator control over when the alternator is active (from an efficiency standpoint, it's best "ON" when decelerating or descending a grade - the same times regeneration is active in hybrids)
- Install a charge controller - a little circuit designed to dump power once the battery comes up to a pre-set voltage. Otherwise, depending on the strength of the panel, I could overcharge the battery.
- Use 5W-20 at next oil change (may royal purple?)
- Complete weather stripping seams
- Finish out lights w/ LEDs (except Headlights)
- Remove A/C Gear from Engine compartment
