Description: Over 300k miles, falling apart, runs smooth but knocks, lol

This VW is my bacon maker. I drive about 2000 miles a week hauling medication from a warehouse to a drop point for distribution to nursing homes. Basically I'm a legal drug runner.

For the last year and a half since I have owned the car I have averaged 28mpg over 100k miles. (Not happy since my Saturn before that got 37mpg) Last weekend I had to change out my transmission. Which resulted an average of 34mpg all week. Now I have the mpg bug.

Tonight I calculated a $40 savings a week just by changing my transmission. (@$0.098 a mile compared to my old $0.117 a mile)

Now I have the mpg bug.

My goal for now is to just hit 40mpg. At least until I can get a Jetta TDi.

Current Mods: Changed transmission for a 600rpm drop @70mph. Gained 6mpg(I think it had wrong tranny when I bought the car.)

Some LED conversions.

HID conversion. Bringing low beams from 55w to 35w. I drive with lights on 100% of the time.

Lowered 3" with adjustable coilovers, camber and toe correction. 1" Ground clearance at lowest point.

Tonight I COMPLETELY changed my driving habit. I am a speed freak. But for work I have started driving the limit and refuse to go over 3000RPMs. (It's nothing for me to hit 6000RPMs before slamming to the next gear just to prove my car is faster.) Hopefully tomorrows fuel up reflects this and is more than 34mpg.

Planned Mods: Change my final drive gear ratio from 3.67 to 3.15

Taller 5th gear ratio

Get cruise controll working

Shave everything

Weight reduction (almost all interior except seats, sound reducer, undercoating, all A/C components, sunroof, trunk mounted air compressor, all door guts except driver door, .

Finish converting all lighting to LED

LRR tires (1" taller for even taller gear ratio)
