Saddlebags, though they are handy add to the poor aerodynamics of bikes. If you have a choice, select a trunk directly behind you.

Now if you carry a passenger frequently, it only works if the trunk is mounted behind where they sit.

Yup, I have a top case - and I could never, ever measure a difference (no negative nor positive) in FE between riding with or without it. I was afraid of it in the beginning, and the effect might be there, but it seems absolutely negligible.

I did too many mods at once to know what each did individually. The saddlebags are fiberglass and pretty narrow, certainly no wider than my legs, but I imagine that they had a negative effect. I am putting aesthetics above aerodynamics on this one; no trunk. The saddlebags get used on every trip (it is my commuter vehicle).

I still need to take a long trip to see how the changes affect my highway mileage. The mixed city/highway mileage is about the same as before adding the Rifle fairing and saddlebags, but I wonder how the highway mileage will be now.
