Another wilderness tower condemned because of disability act

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.gre...amp/1696610001

Many people have great memories and have fun climbing the old wood towers, the views are amazing..

The cost to repair them is minimal but because it’s wood, a lot needs to be replaced meaning the people for disabilities act kicks in which drives the cost from thousands to repair into millions of dollars to instead replace the whole thing with a cement monolith.
The handicapable version is not only ugly but removes the charm of the open climb.

Due to this the towers once common in every park are just being torn down never to be replaced.

I think at some point we need to say shove it.

My father was handicapped and found the fact that eagle tower was torn down due to not being handicap accessible nauseating.

Not sure how one wins this type of battle

That's a shame.

Not to sound rude to disabled people, but certain things aren't accessible. I'm thinking like nature hiking, etc. Physical activities (which I would say those towers should be considered as) aren't always the best ideas. There are limitations to physical activities that are undeniable and can't be altered to be fixed. E.g sky diving and heart problems.

Exactly, over half of the towers that once existed have been condemned and demolished under the ADA act.

These towers are all approaching 100 years old and few if any will get rebuilt

Just build a crane next to the tower.

What about the adventurers (people crafted skills and creativity) who turn such things into homes?
Even a old lighthouse can be converted into a nice home.

To be fair, it's not really the wheelchair bound people who are pushing for these to be taken down, nothing but busy-body bureaucrats.

It seems to be contagious. Like a pandemic.
