This was an E0 tank. I bought extra and refilled again with E0.

this tank should the roughly 8-9mpg improvement that I have seen so far when switching from E10 to E0

I still need to try this in the summer and see if the improvement continues to summer blend.

so my CPM paying $3.60 for E10 is 7.45 cents per mile while my PCM paying $4.11 for E0 is 6.70 cents per mile.

NOTE the price difference for E0 is only 10 cents more per gallon. My difference is larger because I buy my gas normally in NJ which tends to be about 20 cents cheaper than PA.

but even at that huge difference I save a lot of money "paying more" for E0

That is it for the E0. the temps dropped dramatically this week (hence the lower numbers) the last tank was 70' weather this tank was sub freezing weather :-) but even with the sub freezing temps I still managed 6.5+ mpg over my E10 winter tank. Now its back to E10 :-(

This was E0. 10.78 is truly the max capacity of the tank including neck :-) I know this because I "rolled" into the gas station engine off as it sputtered and shut down cresting the hill :-) pheewwww :-)

I DID NOT want to add E10 when I knew I would be so close to an E0 station so I really milked it. hehe The numbers speak for themselves. 10mpg improvement on E0.

Looks like the heat and humidity REALLY do have a big impact. I almost ran out of gas this tank :-) For the first time I got that "stutter" when turning hard right on an on ramp :-) freaked me out thought I was out of gas and it was POURING RAIN out.

though I made two trips iinto philly this tank otherwise I might have kept it over 60mpg.

Another great tank. It seems I simply can not get the extreme numbers (closer to 70mpg) I got those 2 tanks. its "slightly" cooler our lately and a little more night time driving. it seems I really need the extreme heat & humidity for the crazy numbers. but I can keep it over 60mpg with current VERY HIGH heat and Humidity. I am not looking forward to winter as far as MPG's go. I want to try to make some mods to keep my winter FE over 50mpg if possible. I REALLY wish I could have tried some E0 for these tanks !!

Oh man what a tank. I decided to really push it to see if I could get another 70mpg tank REALLY worked the pedal. no joy but I sure got close. this is my longest tank ever (and will probably stay that way) and my second highest tank ever and might even be my highest REAL tank ever (the 70mpg tank was special conditions all highway 55mph max average at 45mph with mountains to EOC down and killer humidity) Very pleased.

WAHOOO !!!!!! 70mpg baby !!! why only 422 miles? cause I was at 70.10 mpg but it "cooled off" big time and my mpg's started to fall like a rock (sort of confirming that heat and humidity equal more mpg's) so I stopped before it fell below 70mpg to secure my 70mpg "tank" (hey anything over 300 miles counts 400 miles for sure counts :-) hehe

WOW. I DID EOC a little bit. anytime I was going "down" a mountain I turned it off. on one stretch I got over 6 miles EOC. if I milked it I compensated and then some for the "climbs" up the other side :-)

amazing to think this car this packed can do this well. Truly awesome.

Not bad. 52mpg for the back and forth grind from hotel to field with trailer attached.

midweek some boxo 85yo lady rear ended me so hard it destroyed my trailer. I could not tow it home. I got new bearings but the axle was tweaked and distorted so it would not accept the new bearings. (out of round)

I found someone to take my larger items closer to home for me (its 11 hours to drive back out here one way) and gutted as many usable parts from the trailer as I could.

the car is freaking PACKED. I mean beyond packed. packed so tight so full I had to rearrange things like a puzzle to fit it all and I needed to use my dash cam on the passenger door window as a "side view mirror" since even the passenger seat was PACKED with a little opening so I could see the screen on the dash cam :-) I don't think I ever loaded this car down this much sans trailer. its EXTREMELY hot and humid and slightly more downhill than uphill going home so I am hoping for some KILLER numbers. I am filling up 1/2 mile from the freeway entrance so I won't have to slow down one single time due to traffic :-)

WOW not freaking bad. over 53mpg and there was quite a few times I had to crawl up mountain passes at 35mph in 3rd just to make it to the top. really working this little engine. (bad clutch so I can't lay into the gas or it will slip) I left at 0200 and it was JUST as hot and humid as it was 10 hours earlier. OUCH that sucked. I was hoping for the night cool off. no joy. once I got into the mountains it DID cool off for a couple hours.

Still going good. short fill this time Going away to Naram tomorrow. So I will be filling up again tomorrow since its nearly 600 miles :-) alas its going to be a bad tank (unless this heat and humidity work miracles) I am filling the car to the roof and filling the trailer with 500 pounds of tents canopies tables chairs coolers. Normally I take the Clubwagon for trips like this but the math says the Geo is $120 in gas round trip while the van is $375 in gas round trip. I flat out can not go if I take the van I don't have the extra $255 needed in fuel. SO going to have to take the mouse. boy is this going to suck the humidity is so stinking high but its better than not going thats for sure.

Something is going on. My MPG's are soaring lately and only getting higher. I have made no changes to the car. I do have an mpguino now and that helped get me to the high 50's but not sure why I am hitting 60+ now. I think it might have something to do with the humidity and heat. Logically this makes sense you get a wee bit of water injection and you reduce the density of the air which essentially makes the engine "smaller" so too speak. if you do not under power by doing this your FE will go up as the computer leans out the burn. Very interesting to see where this goes gives me some ideas.

WOW never got the tank this low before :-) must have been on vapors when I pulled in since I think it only holds 10.6 gallons!! sadly no help on the needle as once it goes "x" amount below the E it stops going down any further so it must hit some sort of detent inside.

E10 again this time. This tank was a little different in that It was almost 100% Highway. 2 times took the trailer out and came back with nothing (burned both times) empty it has zero effect on mpg. it only masses 200 pounds and its fully in the cars suck zone.

Filled up with E10 again this tank. Should be 100% e10 now or close enough to 100% not to matter. Used Lukoil this time.

Nice tank here. Half of this tank was doing my census job work. this is driving around .2 to 2. miles at a shot over and over again so never out of cold loop

the other half was a 180 mile run on the turnpike upto moyerstown and back in a storm and I was cooking it to 60+ at times and a 110 mile round trip to work in 08215 once.

so not even close to an ideal tank. Man I am loving these numbers. I am VERY confident I will murder 60mpg once I have the chance to take a nice largely highway trip.

I have enough fuel for 2 more tanks on E0 then its back to E10 for a few tanks and I go get more E0 to complete the initial ABABA testing.

Filled it up with precisely 10.15 gallons of gas (10 gallons 2.5 cups)

both fills were to the tippy top fuel vislble at the entry point so its an accurate fill.

Note this was towing an over 500 pound trailer 155 miles home (270 pounds of fuel and the trailer) and stuck 40 minutes in philly traffic another day.

Oh yeah. even with all the towing I am over 5mpg over my previous best record normal driving on E10) Can't wait to see what I get on this tank. percentage of E0 approaches unity on this tank. should be less than a cup of E10 (so 1/10th of 1 cup of ethanol) in the tank or less.

ie Pure E0 no washed gas.

Lets see what I get.

I am rather surprised at this tank. I was expecting 45 or lower. I had the trailer attached the entire time and 150 mile trip home on 309 (stop and go) with 100 pounds of extra fuel and a 200-250 pound washing machine on the trailer bigger than my car :-)

I then took the 100 pounds of gas off and towed the washer another 75 miles to our warehouse space.

That night I took the washer off and put onboard 2 4x8 foot sheets of oak flooring still attached to its plywood base and beams (heavy buggers) and took them the 60 miles home then drove back upto the mountains an hour west of allentown.

STILL managed over 50mpg! and that was with only 5.7 gallons of E0 mixed with the E10 in the tank!

Well I was on vapors when I got here so this tank is almost 100% E0 though I still have to tow a dryer home and about 140 pounds in gasoline (buying some more to take home with me)

I expect a really nice figure this tank :-)

yeah no question this ethanol really sucks.

This E10 - huge drop to 47mpg and it was with a lighter load (only me and one other person instead of the normal 3 or 4 people)

I now have NORMAL E0 in the tank. Found a gas station up here in myerstown that has ethnol free gas. I also now here they are trying to render is ILLEGAL to sell E0 anywhere in the state of PA. this we have to stop.

This is a hybrid tank since I only put in 5.75 gallons of E0 but that should be enough for when I come back up here on wednesday so I should be well over 95% E0 on that day. We shall see what happens.

I am also bringing a little over 15 gallons of E0 home with me and I plan to bring more when I come back wednesday.

This tank is extremely suspect. I refilled on Regular E10 to see what would happen but Wawa somehow managed to put more fuel into my tank than my tank is physically capable of holding.

They put in 10.75 gallons which should not be possible even bone dry (they did not "top it off" but even that would not allow for this)

i am using ten gallons though i think even that is too high - we shall see

surprise surprise i guess it was not doing worse my fuel gauge (probably the sending unit) is just hinky :-)

FE is still great and rising This time I filled it with 100% washed 92 octane which should mean 88 octane after washing. right up to the neck like last time so its a very accurate fill with car parked in the same spot.

I kept adding fuel till it sat at the top of the neck visibly and did not go down.

55mpg !! grrrr that makes me happy. I should in theory now have under 1% ethanol in the tank I hope I do not think I am letting the fuel decant long enough so I am getting water into the fuel to some extent but it seems to be ok with that so far. though I bet its hurting my FE. at this point the next logical step is the trip to allentown to get some real E0 and "see what happens"

and we are still on winter blend!! I am rather confident I can kill 60mpg in this car on summer E0 zero mods.

OK the results are in. A bit over 54mpg. over 4mpg improvement! thats over 8% difference just replacing about 70% of my fuel with "washed" gas ie removal of most of the ethanol.!!

Plus its still winter blend gas AND it was less than ideal conditions! stuck in traffic for 30 minutes bumper to bumper NO EOC etc.. Raining 2 days and heavy winds for 2 days.

Looking good so far. This time I am adding 8 gallons of Washed fuel and topped up with .4 gallons of Premium at PA WAWA. that means there was 2.1 gallons of gas left in the tank which is a mix of 70% Washed and 30% E10

so this tank should being me over 80% E0 and under 20% E10

Next tank in theory should be under 10% E10 blend so it should be less than 1% E10 by my 3rd or 4th tank.

if these results hold I will make the trip to Allentown to bring home 40 gallons of proper E0

OK thats what 5 tanks at 50mpg? pretty good baseline. NOW the fun starts. I made 7 gallons of 87 octane wawa regular without Ethanol which should in theory net me 84 octane.

I had 2 gallons of 87 E10 left in the tank and I also added 1.6 gallons of 92 Premium plus the 7 gallons of 84 Octane E0 I just made.

Fingers crossed I don't break anything and we shall see what the results present.

I think this one was artificially high. I think the guy at wawa "topped it up" during my last fill since I have never seen the gas gauge so high. This fill was once again slow and single click nearest dollar and the needle is where it usually is just past full.

ie last tank was artificially low from the too full fill and this tank is higher than I likely actually got since it was a normal fill.

I think I will try El Cheapo Gas in a few days and see if I see a drop.

I also think maybe I did get 50 this time. he REALLY topped it up. I never saw the gas gauge needle so far past full :-) (I always fill to first click off which is within half a gallon of over flowing and usually puts the needle just past the full mark)

I went 57 miles and its still past the full mark :-)

This tank was interesting. I filled up a few days ago in PA I forgot to stop at wawa in NJ and was not sure if I had enough fuel to get back to NJ again so I filled up at PA WAWA.

I got 48mpg this tank! I did do a wee more highway driving but enough to cause that much of a jump? or is something different about the gas in PA?

I will have to test both and when I am sure I can afford it (PA gas is 30cents a gallon more than NJ gas) I will have to do an ABA test between NJ and PA gas to see if its consistent or just a fluke.

Been getting consistantly lower MPG's the last few tanks. On one tank I was hot rodding it a bit (was bored) revving up the rpm's shifting higher.

Tested the 87mph max its spec'ed at. I hit 85 before I ran out of space so it might actually not be able to hit 90mph :-) It got to 75-80 mph pretty easily but once I hit 80 it took a very long time to work up to 85. on 95 a section was "slightly uphill" and I mean slightly and the speed dropped from 83 to 81mph at WOT in 5th. So definately very close to its limit. Gonna have to work on that. I need 100mph even if just one time. I have taken every car I own to 100mph one time "just because" except for 2 vehicles.

my VW Thing which would need beefy rocket motors to get anywhere near 100mph. Had to laugh at a cop once when he mistakenly pulled me over thinking I was doing 80mph (yeah physically impossible except maybe uncontrolled down a mountain road :-) hehe

and My Goldwing. I don't have a large enough sack to try 100 on a bike just yet :-) I chickened out at 90mph.

Wonder if a boattail would help??

anyway I am assuming since I only did that once for half a tank that its the unusually cold temps we are getting lately. May try a warm air intake and see what happens.

The usual. wawa gas only. after this tank I might try joe smoe gas (higher ethanol) to "see what happens for 3 or 4 tanks and then go back. an ABA for fuel if you will.

People mass is down to 1060 pounds. Cargo mass is down to about 70 pounds so I am down to carrying 1130 pounds. No change in FE so far from this drop.

The Usual - I am missing a few tanks of gas in here when I loaned my metro to my pop. He did not keep good records. 2 fills he DID write down the mileage and both were just over 47mpg (which surprises me as his driving style is a bit different than mine) but since I did not do the fill I am not including them.

same as usually 1300 people and weight. Tires are a bit underinflated but I am too lazy to do anything about it in the rain and its been nothing but rain the last few days. Hopefully tomorrow I will inflate them better. I also got some BAD gas this time. I took a chance and went with the 11% ethanol at the in town place (4cents cheaper) already at a quarter tank I am seeing a visible decrease in fuel economy so I am going to go back to buying wawa gas only (6-8% ethanol)

Still got a slightly rough idle and a sticky brake caliper I think (I can still hear it) also got a bad front right wheel bearing getting pretty bad going to try and change it myself this week.

100% of these miles were with about 1300 pounds of people (4) and tools in the car. (the car is only 1600 pounds)

With the fixed EGR the idle is much nicer (but still rough still tracking down the problem)

Every mile of this tank was with 1300 pounds of people and gear in the car wet weight 2900 pounds curb weight of vehicle 1600 pound (still amazed it handles this kind of weight!)

I am still learning how to drive this. I love the shift light as I tend to shift later (used to drive a stick van) it wants me to shift MUCH sooner than I am used to but I see this really keeps the RPM's down!

This week I am changing both lower control arms so I might lose some mpg until I get it realigned.

I also think I have a dragging brake pad or bad caliper or something as I can hear the tell tale snick snick snick of a dragging brake pad.

I also did a full tune up early this tank. new plugs wires pcv dist cap rotor and air filter. the old plugs and wires were in good shape but there was some visible corrosion and pitting in the dist cap and rotor.

My rims are bad (failed inspection) I got new ones all cleaned up nicely painted. Hopefully get those on tomorrow.
