I wasn't intending to bash your truck, or to quote it as "underpowered". Anyway, I bet if Cummins would make its overseas ISF3.8 (which ratings are close to your early 6BT) federal-compliant regarding emissions it could get some popularity among truck buyers who just need the Diesel as a tool and then are not so into that obsession with the power ratings.

The truck transmission was damaged after a cooler hose failed so I sold the beast. I only bought the truck to pull my race car and have decided that I don't want to go racing again right now. I'm relieved at being able to get back all the money I put into the racing operation. Had I gone any further this would not have been the case.

No worries about the fate of the engine. The guy that bought the truck puts old cab-overs on modern chassis and uses Cummins power in many of them.

I'm a fellow Salemite AND have a Dodge/Cummins truck...

I didn't expect to see a fellow capitol city dweller among this crowd, let alone one that appreciates a Cummins.

This is blasphemy here, but I wouldn't try too hard to get better fuel economy on something that is already fuel efficient and is fun to ride. I'm getting a little better out of my CBR600, but it's mostly from coasting as often as possible. Brisk acceleration won't hurt the economy too much unless you are having to get on the brakes again.
