That's extortion, I would've gotten a different battery and zip tied it in.

There used to be a gizmo that disabled the alternator (and aircon) while accelerating advertised in the back of the South African Car Mags.

Shouldn't be too difficult to make something similar. I'm thinking a lever/switch that hangs down from a hinge that swings back when accelerating and down/forward when cruising and decelerating.

Then one would have to gear down while decelerating to use the car's momentum to turn the engine and alternator..

That's a good idea anyway as fuel injection systems today cut the 'idling fuel' completely when one does so.

The battery is in the trunk like on a Prius and is a sealed AGM battery that is supposed to be vented to the outside by a special vent. The charging characteristics are different than on a flooded LA battery.

AGM batteries are widely available for cheap. Just grab anything with smaller dimensions and pack with foam. The vent is some kind of tube which is simple to connect to the valve.

It's already been several months since I bought that Toyota battery. I had been on forums for days trying to get a second opinion before I bought one, but none seemed to work.
