Reintroduction

Recently, another forum froze a thread after my post (see below.) Herre I have shared some Prius, Tesla, and BMW i3 techniques. So I'm looking for a new home to share my Tesla and BMW tricks. Do you object to posting like this:

I notice you have the 2024 Model 3, HW 4.0? Mine is a 2019 with HW 3.0.

Autopilot, the default, or Full Self Driving (FSD)? I bought FSD in October 2019 for $6,000 and use it at every opportunity to learn how to operate it better. For example, mastering the navigation screen to get FSD to drive where I want, efficiently and safely.

Does yours have stalks or all gone? I find them important for getting the best FSD results to override the "Opps" and correct the latent lane selection fault to next turn.

At 150,000 miles, I'm full self-maintenance. On my list:
  • Move screen behind steering wheel. This will defeat the "nags" about paying attention.
  • Cut the top 1/3d of steering wheel for better access to the screen.
  • Reflective film on roof from rear glass tint forward to reduce cabin heating and cooling.
  • Custom frunk that is larger with better access for maintenance.
  • Traffic exhaust filter on cabin air inlet with simplified filter access and replacement.
  • Replace worn frontend linkages and bushings.
  • Fully reclining passenger seat for cat naps and camping.
For now, I'm 'window shopping' for a HW 4.0 Model 3/Y. So far, used prices for 2024 models remains higher than I want to pay. My thinking is in two years, 2026, the three year leases will expire and I should be able to get one for a reasonable price to replace my 2017 BMW i3-REx that should be at about +100,000 miles.
It would help if like the "Hybrid" sub-forum there were an "EV" sub-forum. Many of my tricks apply to any EV. Any thoughts?

Bob Wilson

Hey. Welcome.

Here's a post on pigments that reflect more 'light' (IR) back into space than they absorb, to the tune of 100W per square meter IIRC, of 'aircon'.
https://ecomodder.com/forum/showthre...tml#post675205

Something most seem unaware of is that a white dashboard, reflecting in the windscreen is a non issue if you are wearing polarized glasses.
ie: The reflection just disappears! Magic! Cool and anti theft ala-ding-dash!

I also NB that the way to ...'activate' charcoal, as found in traffic exhaust filters is to heat it up to red hot.
Now that's exactly how the charcoal was made in the 1st place, so 'Activated' is just a word tacked on so people can tack extra zeros onto the price too!
That might save you a couple of $$.

More important seems to be the structure of the organic you make charcoal from and Bamboo charcoal is said to resemble carbon nanotubes or somesuch, making it a more effective filter.

In the past, I had to load the images to an open access, 3d party server. Then share the URL. Is that still how they are done?

I see the image file attachment as a "tumbnail." Attempts to use the [IMG] tags did not render the image in the text.

Is there something I'm missing?

I found:
  1. Upload the image file.
  2. Click on tumbnail to render the full image.
  3. Capture the URL address of the fill size image.
  4. Embed in the [IMG tags.
Awkward but I can live with this.

I appreciate the reflection suggestions but the substrate is glass exposed to the weather and wind. I'll post images (perhaps only as thumbnails) when I get the film applied.

Are you using the Manage Attachments option? What is the source of the file?

The button should display any valid image by URL, from an image board, other website or internal Ecomodder album.

Upload to where?

You can upload a file to your message from any source. A "thumbnail" will appear. Click on it and a rendered version of the image will show up. Use "copy image URL" and embed in the [IMG tags.

It is possible the URL of the rendered image is in a cache location and will soon disappear. But for the duration, it will be usable.

As demonstrated at Permalink #4 at Yesterday, 09:45 PM

Same post Yesterday at 10:41 PM. What's the problem? One can use the Image button without attaching first.

IIRC an invalid URL should show a placeholder.

That's pretty much what I do. You can also grab the image URL from the list of "Current Attachments" in the popup "Manage Attachments" window. If there's a better way, I haven't bothered to figure it out.

My protocol is if an image might see repeated use, it goes in an album (I really wish you could sort albums between each other, I've got a trailers album but others scattered ad hoc)

Single use -- the URL as a link [in italics] just below for attribution.

https://ecomodder.com/forum/member-f...4-100-1277.jpg

An example with both. (bonus points if you can name the car that two-tone was copied from)
