Retractable air dam
I saw somewhere that Volvo once had a retractable air dam and saw some patent application drawings for something similar.
How about us DIYers? Has anyone done this?
The major disadvantage of low air dams seems to be damage in parking lots and their extreme (read geeky) appearance in low speed environments and their major advantage doesn't kick in 'til you get up to speed (what - over 35mph?).
So why not make them retractable for slow speed areas and extendable for higher speed areas? Best of both worlds.
Is anybody doing this? And if not, why not?

Only problem with the search is that "Carlos" shows up hundreds of times and even 20 or 30 times with "Carlos air dam" as the search criteria. I've been scanning old posts for 15 minutes or so without sucess. Now I realize you're not my babysitter but wouldn't it have been easier, and more polite, to have taken 10 seconds and simply provided a link or something a little more informative than "search"?
Maybe I'm remembering why I haven't been posting here despite the fact that I've been a member for years and it's one of the best, if not THE best, mpg oriented forums in existence. Lighten up a little man.

Lighten up? You're the one with the diatribe.
I don't HAVE A LINK so I would be doing the exact same thing as I told you.

OK, fair enough. No reason you should spend your time hunting for a link for me. It just sounded pretty abrupt. Sorry.
I'll keep hunting.

That's even better than what I had in mind. I was figuring on a driver operated ("Oops, I forgot!) setup but this one is automatic. Very intriguing.
Thanks. Really, thanks for the link.
