My 2004 Jetta TDI is rated at 1500 lbs in USA but...

My 2004 Jetta TDI is rated at 1500 lbs in USA but 3000 lbs in Europe. 45-50 MPG on the highway. I lose 5 MPG towing my light Harbor Freight trailer with a 2 foot high square box all the way around.
