Yeah, I've heard about this, and I don't see why I should believe it.

Note especially that he won't let anyone know how it works and that he claims it's an idea from the 40s. No likely suppressed by big oil, the government, OPEC, or some other conspiracy theory target.

just show me the un-reputable data, if thats the case My crx with this "technology" should get about 500mpg.. and zero to 60 in 2 seconds...

I would say this to anyone who claims to have unlocked some secret that promises a muscle car that gets 110mpg AND is capable of 0-60 in seconds (from the article)...

There are many, many talented scientists, engineers, inventors and performance gearheads with very expensive fuel, thus the same motivation. For instance our friends in Europe have been faced with $5/gallon gasoline for years.

Same problem, same talent, but Europeans have had more years to work on solutions. Yet no such technology has surfaced to date? Hmmmm....

Actually, as much as I want to pull the bull $#%!-o-meter out on this one. I can almost believe it. If you see he uses E85 for one, which does have a lower power output using conventional means of combustion, but there may be some way of causing it to react in the cylinder that has yet been explored that he is using (I just pulled that one out of my butt, so I could be wrong). Another thing that I know of is that there is something that some prototype engines have been playing with using magnetically actuated valves for the pistons which would open up the possibility of a cam-less engine that could have some significant efficiency advantages over typical engines today.

These are always simple to debunk guys. An gasoline engine is roughly 25-30% thermodynamically efficient. Lets say that his mustang is a 25mpg car to start with. Even if he got his engine up to 100% thermal efficiency (that’s with an exhaust temperature at 0 degrees Kelvin), his car could only get 100 MPG. Basically he is claiming to extract more energy out of the fuel than is in the fuel! That’s the problem with these guys who make ludicrous claims, not only do they make claims we know not to be true but they make claims that are in total violation of the laws of physics. Unfortunately someone had to give it coverage.

I complained to the news site regarding their lack of skepticism in the article and their willingness to promote his statements as fact without evidence.

It's the same problem with news stories by people who don't understand fuel cells.
"WOW! A car that runs on water!!! Water's Cheap!" No, it's just a fancier, more expensive and more powerful BATTERY (in layman's terms, which should be the ones being used on the news)
