Nice car. My buddy has the same car, minus the lift and tires. And 50 foot antennae.

I'm on a mission to build a hybrid vehicle. 1/3 Snowman, 1/3 Dirt Monkey, 1/3 Gas Saver. 100% all subaru outback.

So anyways, welcome! Good luck with your new car, whatever it will be.

Welcome to the site greenzj. I too would be looking for another car if I was getting 13 mpg! Ouch. Good luck on finding a nice small car. Are you considering any other models besides the metro?

13mpg, holy moley. Is that your daily driver? Do you go fourwheelin' every weekend? If not, maybe pull those big meats and run some street rubber for better mileage.

A rig like that is the answer to a lot of winter weather, but the rest of the year you're paying through the nose for capacity you don't use.

I notice that with a lift, you probably have a long reach to get anything up onto the roofrack. If you don't ever use it, pull it. It isn't a lot of help, but some's better than none, right?

does your 13mpg compensate for your tire size increase? if your tires are biogger , as there are in the photo your mileage is not be racked up correctly.. i bet your getting beter MPG than 13mpg..

A friend of mine bought a school bus to live in and is also getting around 13mph with it... wait, how many people does a jeep hold?
at 31 cents a mile just for gas you would be better off with almost anything else, more so when you figure that gas is 1/3 the cost of ownership so you are creeping up on $1 per mile.

CRX's get similar mileage to metros and a infinitely more fun to drive, just my .02 :-D

SVOboy 06-16-2008 10:30 AM

Man, that's horrible mileage. Glad to hear you're making a swap.

Welcome to ecomodder.

I see the V8s always get worse mileage than my 4.0 six... I got 16.5 for my wheeling trip this past weekend, but should be getting back to 20+ with just street highway driving.

I'll suggest, get rid of the AWD transfer case an d swap in a NP242 or a 231. You get a lot of driveline loss in that AWD tcase. I lose about 2 MPG when i run my 242 in the fulltime setting. I was truly surprised to see 16.5 for my trip this weekend.

Had my daughter with me, she was taking the pictures. I have had the roofrack crossbars off. I have them on for carrying some lumber... This trip with my club was to assess trail damage on a trail we adopt. We couldn't get to the lake where the trail is, still better than 8' snowpack we couldn't get past. We had a great time, with great people. And those are only 30" tires, and no lift on the ZJ, yet.

Welcome to the forum. I am also in the Ohio area and it is not that easy to find a Metro in solid shape in this region. If I find one for sale I can let you know. Have you tried Craigslist to find one?
