175/70 r13 to 155/80 r13 on a hyundai accent.

Currently I have on 175/70 r13 tires. I was wondering (dont need tires for a bit) if I was to switch to 155/80 r13 what would be the pros and cons along with the impact on mpg. Pros I know are better mpg, tires are cheaper and lighter especially since ill be going down to a 13 x 4.5 rim instead of my current 13 x 5. Cons I know is handling ofcourse drops and road noise goes up a bit. What I was wondering if there would be any other negatives like off alignment or overwieght on the rims. Also I do know the skinnier tires have less drag also. And how bad is the handling difference?

There is very little change in rolling resistance due to tire size. The big differences are between tires - meaning make and model.

In the 2 sizes you are considering, there is less than a 1% difference in rolling diameter, so you won't get any better fuel economy due to the gearing effect.

So I would stick with the 175/70R13 as there are more tires available - although this size isn't very popular anymore.

I have taken some cars with rims 13 "

Now I use a "seat marbella " 1994 wheels 13 "

going from 175 / 70R13 to 155 / 80R13 the car runs more free, and slightly lower fuel consumption , need not change the rim to change the measurement.

Switching to 155 / 80R13 lose grip on dry ground. You can earn grip in rain , ice or snow.

if you use the car for city and rarely exceeds 80km / h (50 mp/h) I recommend switching to 155 / 80R13

if you use the car on the road and over 100 km / h (62 mp/h) would recommend the measure 175 / 70R13 . It is a very balanced measure road.

In my seat marbella I use 145 / 80R13 , almost every km in the city and rarely exceeded 80km / h (50 mp/h) . my seat marbella is smaller than its hyundai car.

Yeah I wasnt conserned about rolling resistance due to both tires have no lrr tires that are good. And I dont need to swap the rim with the 4.5 but wouldnt it be better to use the 4.5 since it will be some lighter then the 5.0 in width rim. I was wondering if it would have like a negative effect like making the car unbareable to drive. I drive way more city the highway by far. Actually my mpg has been tanking thanks to Iit being winter time and since I drive 4 miles to work my car warms up when i get to work and since gas Iis down might as well take advantage of the extra cash thanks to less money going into the tank.

The car is saddly an auto so city in the car is around 28-32 mpg. Highway trips I get 37 min so I wanted to get this bad boy better at city and it seems to be the best bet is weight reduction and some aero mods. Tires were my first thought. As for gearing that really wont make a difference in my city driving i just saw some metro users were using 155 instead of 175 for mpg purposes

Get some 14" wheels and the OEM Honda Insight 165/65-14 Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires.

Yeah the only issue I see about that is those tires cost 75 bucks each (double of a 155/80 r13 tire) and the 14 in insight rims prob will cost me more to get Also. That and I had those tires on my old car and they wear down so quickly that even thought they a lrr they are a terrible tire thanks to ther 200 ish treadwear number

I do not ride the rim 14 " with 165 / 65R14 , the tire has less profile. Absorbs less potholes , but it is nothing radical. may be another option .

For 155 ... you can mount wheels 4.0 4.5 5.0 5.5 inches if you find them .

To search for new rims you need to have the same number of screws, and the same distance, eg 4x98 ( 98 millimeters). and the same or similar distance between the center of the rim , eg ET38 ( 38 millimeters).

Tire you need for the same or higher loading code , you need the same or higher speed code . keting record in the code load and speed on older cars do not always appear.

In the technique inspecion not always the size, load and speed code of the tires is verified, if verified and do not spend the inspecion is not met.

To mount a tire has to have an ameliorative equivalent radius between +/- 3% of origuinal tire, the distance between vias with a maximum distance of +/- 30 millimeters .

This is the law in Spain and within the european union is equal . In other countries may be different .

Make sure before buying new tires that will not have problems in the art inspecion, or tire rims and buy and keep old for inspecion .

I changed tires and rims in cars, to see which does better . what I like is not very wide tire, and with the profile grade as much as possible to better absover potholes .

Here some roads have potholes .

Thanks for that info when im looking at seeing if I could get a lighter rim to replace my current one. Her in the us they just check the tread left on the tire really.

Have you even checked the weight difference on the 4.5 rim? I doubt if it is 1 or2 lbs.
