1978 cb 400t build
hi just finally got the carbs to stop leaking a month ago so now its time to start working on getting better mpg, i havent been keeping track of the mpg (bc most of it was dripping out of the carb) but now i will defiantly start to saddly its nearing the end of riding season but ill see what mods i can do for now/next year while keeping the orginal look (no fairings i love the look of old honda's). mods so far are: new tires (not really a mod), led brake/licence plate lights, led dial and indicator lights, and thats basically it. planned or hope to do mods: lower the seat a little for areo purposes (i have a spare seat thats junk that i want to see if i can trim some off and recover the seat), maybe led turn signal bulbs and new maybe led headlight( to lower alternator draw and for looks), clean up rust/repaint rusty chrome parts(for looks and long life of bike), swap out the bokes rear sprocket for a tooth or 2 less (uping the drive sprocket will need to modify the cover), maybe look at a better spark plug wire (for better spark/more efficiency), and anymore if anyone has any good ideas or mods (please nothing like fairings)

Great bike. I used to have an '81. Loved the 6 spd. Have to say a TINY bikini fairing would help the aero, the looks, make it look a lot newer. I bought a cheap one from JC Whitney, and it looked great! Just a thought! Happy riding!

actually the 78 used a 5 speed with a lower reving engine (the lower reving i read somewhere but cant find it again. im pretty sure my rev limit is 8000, though i never look down to look nor every go that high in a gear.

Lets see a picture. :)
I have a 81 CM400e that I ride. Its quite a fun bike, and I've been getting low 60 mpgs with it. Here is my fuel log: 1981 Honda CM400E Gas Mileage (CM400E) - EcoModder.com |

I have a favor to ask. Please use capitol letters at the beginning of sentences and punctuation at the ends. I abandoned the second half of your first post as it was so hard to read.
|
Sorry i posted it on my phone. At least im not one of the people that use all caps for the whole post, am i right guys.
|
Yeah, I get lazy at times with capitalization and there is no excuse for it. Almost did it in this post!
Another thing is run on sentences, which was the first thing I noticed in the OP's post. Use those periods folks. They don't cost nothing! And finally, use that carriage return key (Guess that dates me, huh?). Run on paragraphs are as annoying as run on sentences. |
It could always be worse, i'm sure you guys have seen the wonderful text message speech people. Now thats annoying.

Okay back to topic, is there a reason why my bike seems to be running hottor then normal. I pulled the plugs one was a little black and the other was good. I just rebuilt the carbs so i know that isnt the issue. I never checked the plugs since I bought the bike, so I replaced them and the oil to see if that helps. If it persists any suggestions? I did check my compression and it was a hair lower then the manufacture one, but im sure that is normal.
