1L Car
I just found this.
http://www.motorauthority.com/cars/v...r-car-for-2010 Kudos to Volkswagen, I hope to see it in Canada at a reasonable price. |
Wow, that's definitely sweet~

Nice. That company keeps getting my hopes up. This time I think they'll go through with it.

That car has popped up on this site a few times. It deserves it. :)
Originally they canned the prototype. Now that they are planning on doing limited production, I'd expect Europe to get access first. With a top speed of 80mph, low acceleration, and a light structure, I can't imagine the U.S. being a viable market in the near term. Definately an awesome technology demonstrator and an example of the way I think transportation should be heading. I think the use of exotic materials (carbon fiber, magnesium, titanium) aren't worth their cost. While they might have been necessary to break the 1L/100km mark and generate publicity, I'd much rather buy a significantly cheaper version that gets slightly worse mileage. Fiberglass and aluminum would knock the price of that vehicle down substantially. This is the best overview I've seen. - LostCause |
Yeah, I hope the production version is much more mainstream in its construction. If it's made out of solid Unobtanium they might as well not bring it out at all, but if they can price it like a small car, it should sell well.

Awesome, looks like the aptera will have some competition.
http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/reso.../12/aptera.png I would just love it if these super mpg cars became a new car class (like compact, suv, mid-sized) and every car make had a similar type car. Hopefully by the time gas hit $10 a gallon... |

Hopefully by the time electricity hits $10/kW, I'll have solar panels. :D I agree about the new class for cars, but it should extend beyond type to include registration and insurance benefits. Right now, three-wheel cars (e.g. Aptera) have it great in California since it is considered a motorcycle, but in areas like Ohio, that distinction has kept some unique vehicles off the road. - LostCause |

That is a pretty neat car. I agree that less exotic materials would make it far more practical. The repair costs would be horrendous, so car insurance would be expensive. Liability would probably be cheap though since you couldn't possibly damage any other car on the road with it! |
