2000 Civic - grill block & fake vent covers
I have been playing with this for a while. I am still working on it. I covered the fake vents. And made a partial lower grill block. I based these on the "Worlds Fastest Civic". They made from plexiglass, spray painted black and held on with doubleback tape.
http://www.greencarmpg.com/images/civicmods.jpg I still want to make an air dam. I am considering using either plastic lawn edging or aluminum flashing, and attaching it with pop-rivets. |
I like the license plate relocate, too. It's just awkward looking in the factory location.
Do you ever use AC? |
I have the '04 version of that and did similar covers for those indents.
I'm actually thinking of opening them and using those to bring the air into the radiator so I can clean up the center line and go for a better, over the car flow. The Civics grill, (yours and mine) remind me of this thread http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ille-7838.html about the 'self closing grill'. I had an upper grill block but took it off during this warmer weather. That's why I'm looking at the lower block with maybe an air dam/splitter, using the 'vents' in front of the wheels as the entry for the cooling. |
Thats a nice job. Any numbers yet?

Thanks! I rarely use the AC. I am more likely to roll the windows dwon, except on the very hottest days.
I drove down to PA and was averaging about 42-43mpg which is slightly higher than I have gotten before (usually around 41-42mpg). Then I hit a traffic back up, stop and go traffic. I was a little worried about engine temps, but the engine stayed in normal range. BTW, I love the navigate alternatice feature on my Tom Tom GPS. I need to rework the covers some as the douple back tape isn't quite holding. I might try pop rivets, though I am very hesitant to start drilling my car body. |
