Hi Folks,

New here(Been lurking around for a year),I Just got a nice well maintained 2005 Toyota camry v6 3.0L a week ago and i have to say i'm impressed with the MPG's i'm getting so far from this car,i did a mobil 1 extended performance synthetic oil change+k&n oil filter,i also put in k&n air filter,4 new nokian entyres @50PSI"LRR".I fill'er up with a 91 octane free gasoline and for my commute(i live close to freeway so city driving is less than 5%) i'm averaging close to 40mpg,my last tank i drove 70 miles and when i filled it up,it only took 1.15 gallon which yields to 61.1 mpg(best tank i ever had) i always drive far right lane anywhere from 55-65 and sometimes over 70 to keep up with the traffic flow.The only hypermiling techniques i use is the <2k rpm rule+DWB.:D

Welcome! High 30's is decent for a V6.

A short fill like that (61.1 mpg) is prone to errors, but it'll average out in the long run.

Thanks for the reply MetroMpg,I was able to pull off 43.5MPG for my commute to school(35 miles total),i just got a scangauge yesterday and calibrated it(it turns out i had 2.4L version of the LE not the v6).My goal is to get close to 50MPG,i took couple pics of the scangauge,i will use the cruise control tomorrow and see if it makes any difference to the mpg.

4 cylinder! That makes more sense. (I'll fix your thread title. :) )

And it's nice to see the numbers I saw in my dad's car weren't off base.

With ideal conditions and traffic, a few mods and some effort, 50 may be within reach. Should be fun trying anyway!

If there are hills on your route, an attentive driver will be able to beat the mileage that cruise control gets. Why? Because the cruise does exactly the opposite thing you want it do if efficiency is your goal: it adds power on the way up the hills and engine brakes down the back side, all to maintain speed.

An efficient driver will bleed off speed on the way up (depending on circumstances/traffic), and regain it on the other side.

Tried Cruise control last night and my AVG MPG dropped to 37MPG,i'll stick with driving with my foot lol,i can maintain a solid 40 by just adjusting my throttle input depending on the traffic conditions.i was thinking of doing grill block,do you know anyone on this forums that has done it for their camry?:thumbup:

Monitor your coolant temperature and listen for the electric radiator fan to fine tune it. You're likely safe to start with a full upper, then work on the lower block.

I'll try that out during the summer,How much impact mpg wise will side mirror delete have do you think?

Few of the "easy" mods have a large impact on fuel economy. They each contribute a couple of percent here & there. It's when you put them all together that you start to see a difference at the pump.

One mirror: maybe a 1 or 1.5% difference. (Very rough estimate.)

Grille block: maybe a 2-4% difference.

Cool man thanks,How we'll does FAS and those other techniques work with auto transmission..

They work great! Provided you don't wreck the transmission. :)

Can the car be "flat towed"? (Check the owner's manual). If it can't be, then the transmission isn't being lubricated when the car is in motion while the engine is off.

The steering in this car would be very heavy with the engine off (no power assist).

Yeh i don't want to take that risk lol,i'll just stick with my current techniques and add couple mods during the summer to get MPG'S close to 50.

Good luck getting to 50! That is very impressive for a car that size, and an automatic. My much smaller Mazda can barely squeak 33 mpg in perfect conditions with a lot of engine off coasting.

Well temps dropped to 32F yesterday and today and it's been raining non-stop,my mpg dropped down to 33MPG,it's still 2mpg better than the epa highway.

Today i blocked off the lower grill with 1" pipe insulation,i left about 3" space on the right side to get some airflow to the radiator,temps were in the upper 70's to lower 80.Final mpg was 43.5 as i parked my car in front my house,similar trip earlier with no grill gave me 38.3MPG.coolant temp stayed in the normal range at highway speeds(60mph) around 180-190 but it went up to around 203 when sitting at a traffic light,i had the fun running at cool but no a/c.

Great numbers! Any other mods planned? Beaded seat covers will keep you comfortable longer as it gets hotter out... they'll let you run the AC less. (Or not at all if you want to be hard core about it.)

Since i park this car outside and i have no garage to work on it available,i'm limited to the mods i can do with it and with that being said i'll maybe add some moon hubcaps and see if i can design rear wheel skirts.:)
