Auris Hybrid Tips and Tricks

I own a 2015 Toyota Auris Hybrid Sports Tourer. After buying it used I am struggling to get above 47mpg. I do mixed driving over a 70 mile commute per day including motorways, country roads etc. I have the car in Eco mode but anymore tips? I live in a very wet climate so the car just steams up if air con is off or recirculating. I need to look at changing tyres as for some reason it’s been supplied with winter tyres and both front and back are “E” rated for fuel efficiency. Any other tips/tricks/suggestions?

Nothing specific. I don't know about the Eco mode so I looked it up. Apparently it just de-sensitizes the accelerator pedal. In my Metro, the Eco light trains you to short shift up through the gears.

I never got to the factory rated mileage, how do you compare? Generally the three areas of opportunity are powertrain, aerodynamics and the 'nut behind the wheel'. The first two come pre-optimized, but with aero there are some opportunities that come with their own costs. Wheel spats and skirts, trailer hitch cargo box, etcetera.

It is winter and over here we get oxygenated fuel to help reduce emissions. I bet you will do better when warmer weather comes around. What is the ethanol percentage in your fuel?

Sounds about right. It's very similar to a gen 3 Prius with a worse cda. Any speed over 45 mph and the mpg will suffer. Its really a town car not a highway cruiser. With that said the winter temps do cut mpg by about 10 mpg.

At least on the bright side you qualify for zero road tax where in America we do the opposite and levy more taxes on hybrid cars.
