21 mpg, at 100+mph in 1964!

A friend at work lent me the auction book that contained this car. Scroll down through the pictures. Check out the boat tail and pizza pans!

Seeing Alpines ripping around villages in my youth was pretty sweet. I liked them better than the Detomaso that roared by me occasionally.

If you find that interesting, you should research air planes. They get decent mpg and go several hundred miles an hour.

And here with the high tail sections on the boat-tail ( they tried several variations on the design ):

@ beatr911 : Thanks for posting. I had never seen this car before.

Of note here is the radiused edge just behind the front wheel - much like the G1 Insight.

Re: Post #5

Check up that top view! Tapered in plan and elevation.

I think the "Batmobile" fins are vortex fences.

The italians can sure do exquisite body work.

Maybe it an aircooled thing with me. I liked Fiat X1/9 s too. Or maybe its the stance from squat swing axles? Well, anyway the Alpines were always running balls-out high rpm. I figured they were 2 liters or less. I thought they came as 1300cc too. Not a lot of displacement is probably why the were always redlining. Back then they has the sweetest aftermarket mufflers on 4 bangers too. If you ever heard Kadrons on a beetle I always liked that sound. Now its regulated, and frankly, I don't want to hear a loud car anymore. I doubt I could even get in and out of most of the stuff I liked in the eighties.
