2nd Annual GeoPalooza - 7/25/2009

The date is official for the 2nd Annual Great Lakes GeoPalooza - Saturday July 25th 2009

Geo Metro and all other "Econobox" owners are encouraged to join us. Members from other sites will also be invited to this gather on beautiful Lake Erie. Last year was a great success at Pymatuning Lake in NE Ohio.........

We hope this year will be even better especially since we have a prime location right on the beaches of Lake Erie at Lakeshore Park in Ashtabula, Ohio.............

We are going to be on the East side of the Main Pavilion rows 1 through 15 and will start the gather around 9:00AM until the afternoon and then that night we can also meet up at the Pymatuning Lake Drive-In theater.........

I already rented the Pavilion and will be supplying some food and refreshments. Others joining are encouraged to bring food, drinks, chips, etc to ensure everyone has a great time. There are so many thing you and the family can do in this area, so if you want to make a vacation out of this, you will not be disappointed.

Make your Hotel or Camping reservations early since Summertime is a busy time of year on Lake Erie and those of you traveling long distances should take note of other members profiles and locations and message each other if you want to pair up on the journey. It's not official, but I may also open up my property for camping/bonfire if some of you need something to do the night before or after the meet.

Some members will be staying at Geneva State Park and several members have already reserved spots#25 - #29 there. Here is a link............

Lake Village campground always has camping spots available (no reservations available) and it's close to the Drive-In...........

Evergreen Lake park has camping for $19.00 per night......

Hotels/Motels are also nearby if you are not a camper.......

Bring your spare Metro/Swift parts for the gather for a mini swap meet.

Feel free to add any other ideas for the gather. I am also trying to get a bunch of GeoMetroForum stickers together also, but did not intend to go all out on this, so we will see.

See you in July :)

OOH! Planning well in advance! All right!

I'll mark it on my calendar, but summer is busy!

How many OTHER electric Metros will be there?

MetroMPG 02-17-2009 10:09 PM

Awesome to take the initiative, Johnny M.

Date marked. I'd really like to go - just need to check against a couple of other events (family & holidays) that are still in the works.

It would be fun to bring the ForkenSwift...

Johnny Mullet 02-17-2009 10:28 PM

I got lucky! The park started taking reservations on today's date and most of the Saturdays have already been taken.

Coyote X 02-17-2009 11:36 PM

I'll be bringing my Metro this time. I will probably be hauling it behind my van though :) It is a bit rough and uncomfortable for a 7 hour trip. Plus I can bring a massive amount of spare parts

Got any advice on a camping location nearby for this one? Last time we rode the bikes up to the lake but it was raining pretty good so we didn't get to look around at a lot of the park areas. It would be cool if we find a place big enough that we could all group together again.

Johnny Mullet 02-18-2009 06:55 AM

If we are going to the Drive-In that night, I would say camping at the same location as last year would be ideal since Pymatuning State park is close to the theatre.

Pymatuning State Park

I can also scan out some other campgrounds near Lake Erie also.

ericbecky 02-18-2009 08:41 AM

Dang... I'd like to go, but I think my family will kill me if I do anything the weekend right after Hybridfest Green Drive Expo. I usually commit to being with them that last weekend in July since they have to put up with all my festival planning the rest of the year.

Well, my fingers are crossed for good weather for you and I'll continue to watch the thread.

If we have any extra stuff from our event (freebies, etc), maybe we can send it down to you guys with someone who had come up here the weekend before?

Daox 02-18-2009 09:02 AM

Oooooh, I wanna go! Gonna hafta see about this one. Maybe make a small vacation out of it with the Mrs.

How would you do that? You would have to leave a month early :turtle:

If you do decide to show up, it would be great to see the Electro-Metro, but hopefully on a trailer at first

Two words - Tow Bar!

Johnny Mullet 03-16-2009 10:10 PM

Also, there is a grassy area that is used for the Sunday car shows that we may have access to! We will have a lot of locals checking out our rides!

1337 03-30-2009 12:29 PM

I almost want to buy a Metro just to go to this.

I have my spot reserved. If anyone wants to camp nearby you might want to reserve a spot real soon. They are filling up quick. You can always cancel 14 days before and get your money back if you decide not to stay there.

https://www.ohio.reserveworld.com/default.aspx for reservations
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Portals/2...evacampmap.pdf for a map of the campground I am staying at.

bennelson 04-05-2009 08:20 AM

Wait a minute!?

Are we all getting electric sites!?

I mean, ya gotta have somewhere to plug in your block heater/Electro-Metro/Metro Hybrid, right? ;)

Coyote X 04-05-2009 10:51 AM

If you plan on staying at that park where I am at you will have electric on most sites. Plenty of power to charge your car :)

Better reserve it soon though there are already a few spots gone. I bet every campground will be full by May.

Johnny Mullet 04-23-2009 11:03 PM

The Ashtabula Park Commissioner has approved my request for the grassy area where the car shows are held to be used for us to display our rides. The area is less than 20 feet from where the pavilion is and this will be great where we can have all our rides in one place and not worry about parking.

Johnny Mullet 05-10-2009 10:24 AM

I am starting an attendance list for those interested in coming to the gather. This is because other people may want to meet up on the road and travel together for the trip which benefits everyone! Let me know if you need added or removed from the list. These are people from GeoMetroForum, TeamSwift, Ecomodder, Automotive Forums, etc........

I was just thinking about whether you'd do this again-- I will have to look into making it out there for real this time.

MetroMPG 05-12-2009 02:22 PM

I'm sorry to say I won't be making it this year, Johnny M.

Scheduling conflict with another event I'd already committed to (sailing holiday :)).

Better too many fun events to choose from than not enough...

Hacksaw 06-22-2009 12:43 PM

TTT...ToTheTop

Daox 06-22-2009 01:05 PM

I'm also going to have to cancel.

antennaejim 07-08-2009 06:48 AM

I might be able to get out there. Sounds like fun.

Medic Nodirt 07-09-2009 10:01 AM

Hey everyone! I put a blog together on my website that has some of last years pictures and a couple of new ones! Feel free to check it out. Gearing up for Lake Eerie!!! - Sarah’s Site

blownb310 07-18-2009 10:58 AM

Wish I lived closer, as I'd definately like to join the fun. Please takes pics again this year.

Mike

metroschultz 07-19-2009 08:15 PM

Awwww

C'mon Mike,:p
Some of us are traveling 600 miles for the gathering. (sounds like a Steven King/Stanley Kubrick film)
I think there are some others from upstate NY coming,
You could caravan with them.
:turtle::turtle::turtle::turtle::turtle:
If you can't, then we will miss you and send lots of pictures.

WooHoo,
I found a way to make it work.
See you Saturday:D.

Coyote X 07-22-2009 07:07 PM

http://metroxfi.com/temp/packed.jpg

I'm packed and heading out in the morning. So I'll be there Friday when you guys show up :)

Going to be a fun weekend!

Planecrazy 07-22-2009 11:38 PM

This sounds like a great time! Wish I could make it, but I don't currently have a vehicle that qualifies AND the 25th is my son's birthday so I'll be doing the birthday party thing instead...

...Maybe next year!

Regards,
Steve

Johnny Mullet 07-24-2009 07:11 AM

Coyote X (Rick) has arrived already and I met up with him at the campgrounds. The XFi Hybrid Metro is one hell of a sight to see.

Take care all and see the rest of you Saturday!

whokilledthejams 07-24-2009 02:18 PM

I can't make it, I got roped into some crap :^(

Johnny Mullet 07-25-2009 12:07 AM

So far we have about 10 Geo Metros at the campground. I stopped by and we all did a Geo Metro Convoy down the Geneva on the Lake entertainment strip. It was really cool. Many more coming in.

blownb310 07-25-2009 08:44 AM

Thanks for the updates. Sounds like fun.

Don't forget to take some pics!

Here are some pictures from the 2nd annual Geopalooza today (if I actually got them uploaded to Picasa). What a great event! Johnny, his wife and who knows how many others put on a great picnic and a very well organized event. Over 16 cars and probably 50-60 people, and "a fine time was had by all" :thumb

For some pics, Please go to: Picasa Web Albums - heaters - Geopalooza 09

(I hope the link works)

Thanks Johnny.

Love the spirit of the event, cake and all!

Nice touch taking a pic of each car with it's owner[s]. I hope one of the guys got a date out of the deal too. ;)

Was that a Swift I saw in there? I don't recognise that grill. What year is it?

Johnny Mullet 07-28-2009 06:35 AM

That was a first generation Swift (Chevy Sprint) and it was unique.
