3D printing meetup at Local Motors

I finally looked at Meetup before going to my internship. I came home, looked at the activities, and realized that I would be late. They had a vehicle in front that was some kind of sports car and SUV. I took out my phone to take a picture when someone got in and started doing donuts while I tried to understand the speaker.

Hopefully I can pick up interesting stuff to share with you guys!

You're probably talking about the Rally Fighter. https://localmotors.com/localmotors/...hter/activity/ For a mere $90,000 you can go there and build your own, with their assistance.

Correction, $99,900.00

[Edit] Bluefoot is right, that vehicle is called the Rally Fighter.

The second guy did not like the printers on the market, so he built one that made objects up to 24"x24"x24" for $300.

The third guy discussed ramanPi, the DIY 3D Printable Raspberry Raman Spectrometer.
He said they used it for cancer research, identifying bacteria, and scanning under his wife's fingernails to track medical conditions. Had it been ready earlier, they were people who wanted to send it to fight Ebola. They say you can make one like it for about a thousand dollars, but could possibly make one for $350.

Then there is a lady named Laura Royal that works in the Red Mountain branch of the Mesa Public Library, which has a Think Space, with a Maker Space, which has a Makerbot Replicator 2, where they only charge for materials, and have free workshops. She said they were looking for people to teach how to use free programs. She said you need a Mesa Public Library card to print. She played a video with some intense loud music. They do not actually play that at the library, right? If you cannot find quiet at the library, what hope is there in this world?!

The last guy printed a model of a Toyota engine and transmission, thanks to a mechanical engineer who runs a pool cleaning company, disassembled his truck engine, and reverse-engineered it. He printed the parts and made his own springs out of mig wire. He talked about onshape.com, saying that it is like Google Documents for CAD. He says you are supposed to use an iPad4, but he has used an iPad2 without a problem. He says that it is awesome for collaboration, he can just sent the file to whoever makes the parts he designed and they do not need to ask any questions. The student who designed the Rally Fighter was offered a job at GM. Someone involved in another project was offered a job at Ford, but refused to sign the contract until he completed the project. He explained a material he printed called Ninjaflex. Their goal is to to have 3D-printable 50-state-street-legal car in two years. Their printer does projects up to 4'x6'.

I like Local Motors. Let us know what you find out. Their website confounds me.

According to the User CP, this is my profile picture:http://ecomodder.com/forum/image.php...8&type=profile.

I apologize for taking so long to respond (and for not removing my silly avatar picture), my sister asked me to take my nephews on a snow camp out at the last minute, which was especially exciting, because I have not worn warm clothing in years! That stuff was buried!

I have also been busy with my internship. Anyway...
This was my view from where I sat on the floor in the back:http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...1&d=1432146224

They printed this chair:

I believe the top one is Ninjaflex (and had some obvious printing error) and the bottom one is a less flexible version:

The model Toyota engine:

Some more of its components:

I was not able to get in very close. There is a 3D printer, materials, and several coils of plastic, these were samples they were giving out. Not having a printer, I took a pen! :)

This is the printer from the previous image. Three-D printing "Phoenix 3D Printing" in Phoenix?!

I apologize, they briefly mentioned these vehicles, but I do not remember what they said:
