44 MPG over 90 days

Hello -

I *finally* was able to get to a 44 MPG average on my 90 Day :

I'm sure I'll drop below 44 in a few days, so I wanted to catch it while I could.

Sweet

 that's awesome!!

I just hope i can one day break the 40 mpg barrier with my mustang. It just seems to take awhile because I don't drive that much.

Hello -

Like I thought, I dropped below 44 MPG for two months, but now I'm back over the top (at least until the next tank) :

I did this even though I let my nephew drive my car on Mulholland Drive the other day (at the speed limit, mind you).

There seems to be something weird happening. Ever since my last oil change, the car has been getting really great MPG. The only other difference that I know of is a new air filter, but I can't believe that's *the* reason. I'm guessing he just tweaked something while it was in the shop, or the car fixed itself in some way. Not very scientifical, I know.

Hello -

Ah well, all good things come to an end :

At this point, I know I can't stay above 44 MPG because I've had too many subpar tanks and it's getting just too cold for great MPG (even in LA, ha ha). Time to implement winter mods for next summer.

Nice job!!!

Colder weather generally has that effect. Some areas also sell Winter fuel, which also hurts FE.
My last fill-up in my "pony" was under 31MPG. Oh, well, I got my 2009 year-to-date average over 30. (for now):)

Hello -

Back on top. The encouraging thing is that instead of doing it in July, I'm there in March :

My goal is 45 MPG this summer, so the stars are aligning.

I have no proof, but I think a new EGR valve, Magnecor ignition wires, and a new 02 sensor helped. I have also perfected my full wheel covers, so I think that's a plus. She's just purring like a kitten right now (knock on virtual wood).

What I *should* be doing is an exhaustive weather vs MPG analysis between this year and last because I don't know if it has been warmer in the last 3 months than the same time last year. But, I don't have the energy to do that right now, :o .

I gotta think the o2 sensor helped!
