Also, are the new 300s more fuel efficient than the older 250s?

Some of the old carburetor 250 cc bikes did get better mileage. It would be a trade off for comfort and reliability.

I don't doubt the V-strom 650 can get great mileage, but what about the NC750X? Or the grom/Z125?? Or the Supercub? Fuelly supercubs are around 120-130 MPG.

Kind of hard to tell the CBR 300R MPG, fuelly data is janky, but the CBR 250R (single) seems to get high 60s to low 70s. The one or two 300s I can pull up are mid 70s.

I'm not so sure about the Versys, as it's somewhat more rev-happy...

I got well over 70mpg stock on my cbr 250. Although, I do think that went down a bit when they upped it to 300. Also, this doesn't count any of the scooter style bikes that register as motorcycles, ie the pcx150.

I got the impression this article was dealing with "highway worthy" bikes. I don't know that a Grom would be a great option for cruising down the interstate, though I prefer 55 mph back roads on any bike.

I get 42km per litre or 98.79 mpg on full throttle on the high way on my Honda NBC110. When you have 8 hp it is easy not to use a lot of petrol.

It has the same engine as the ninja 300, but with a different cam. It is very revvy 4k in 6th gear is about 35 mph. It can do 95 on the interstate and the instant readout was ~30 mpg I think. That was with factory instrumentation though. My best was 71 on my first fill which was all in town and I stayed under 6k the whole time. Current lifetime is 58, although I lost the receipt for the fillup on the only interstate trip I did. I was hoping to do a fuel economy tank on my route to work over a week or two with no joy riding and full ecomodder style, but I've since been told to work from home, so no new data for awhile.:snail:

Fast is an adjective I'd never use for those...

I can't believe they overlooked all of the current Honda parallel twins. I think even the Rebel 500 with it's twin does better than the Rebel 300 with listed with it's single, or they are very close. The 500 is supposed to be buttery smooth.
