62 MPG Audi A6 1998

Hello, I want to introduce my car. It is old one Audi A6 1.9 TDI 1998 81kW. I am quite happy with such fuel consumption of this not small car.

62 MPG in a 12 year old car and people complain that Congress can't mandate 62 MPG by 2025 cause it's "impossible."

I read about your ecodriving rallys in your other thread, where you remarked that the car has to be stock, with no modifications. Do the rules allow grille (radiator) blocks or pumping tires to a higher pressure? Folding the passenger side mirror can still be regarded as "stock" while slightly improving frontal area. Also, is there a judge in the car with you during the drive to make sure you don't break laws? If not, there are a few techniques you could try (eg coasting in neutral, or even EO(ff)C) which may not be strictly illegal, but which the judges wouldn't allow.

LED daytime running lights would also slightly help by reducing your electrical load by ~150-200W. In Lithuania you are required to drive with your lights on 24h/365, correct?

Does your TDI have an intercooler? Adding one would lower your intake air temperatures, which should increase efficiency.

When will you enter the Lupo in your EM garage?

Thats some pretty good mileage out that car!

Good work!

If only the 2.5v6 would do the same MPG

-Yes it shoulb be stock. While there is not seen any visual improvements it is ok. No one blocks grill, tyres are checked to met standart manufacturer specs. I don't believe that mirror delete (it is smaller than drivers sida) will improve consumption while car is so big and heavy

- No, judges don't see. So usage of EOC is quite good technique in long downhill distances

yes we need to run them constantly, but I don't know how you calculated 200W ;] Now I'm using in front 0.1W*2 LED + 20W*2 Xenons. For taillights and stop bought also LED bulbs, but taillights don't work, only brakes. And good DRL cost vey very much ...

- Yes ofcourse it has factory one.

- I like spritmonitor.de much more ;]

My lights (more or less):
  • Headlights - 2x55W,
  • Position lights - 4x10W or 2x5W+2x10W,
  • Rear plate lights - 2x5W or 2x10W,
  • Dashboard lights - ???, probably 3-8 bulbs, 5-10W each.
My LED DRL's use only 5.5W each, and (now that Poland complies with EU DRL law) I don't need any other lights. I don't remember the make or the exact price, but it was something German and probably around 50€. Check out post #29 in my mod thread for a picture of the DRL's, and post #72 for a picture of them behind the grille block.

As of next year, all new cars sold in the EU will have DRLs.

    8x1,2W

    So it is about 150W

-As far as I saw people driving with _cheap_ DRL, ir looks more like decoration, but not full functional light...

BTW. Nice Svietlana thread ;)
