70 MPG - without engine-off coasting or pulse and glide

I did it

Driving at 45-50 MPH entire last 2 tanks and the recent cam and gear swap has done the trick. Now that the power band in my car is where it should have been from the factory, it's doable.

So what does a redneck do with the $500.00 he saved in fuel for the last few months?

Gonna get some mudders for the 4X4 and have some fun at Yankee Lake Truck Night in Ohio

Ironic isn't it? Save fuel to have fun wasting it

Very nice Johnny!

Hey Johnny, Congrats, really well done!!

But tell me now, how much of it is attributable to your your being able to mod it at places most don't even know exist? Could you summarize the part that a commoner would not be able to do within reasonable time / resources? That would be helpful in viewing your success in a perspective...

I'll send a block of Pennsylvania scrapple and a pile of S.O.S your way to celebrate...congrats Mullet!

Congrats, Mr Mullet!

Have you stuck the taller final drive transaxle in there yet?

For someone who prefers to just cruise, seems to me that's the next logical place to go with it.

With the new exhaust, driveshaft, tires, engine repairs, etc, I dumped almost $1000.00 into the old truck. I could have never have done this if I was driving it daily like before the Metro came along. I never owned a vehicle longer than this old Chevy Truck. I had her for 8 years. I have always loved my "Black Betty" because she's been there for me all along and never let me down. She has some rust issues now, but nothing major. I figure it was time to fix her up and have some fun with it before it rots away.

Now I need to get back to driving my Metro to save up more cash! Spending $8.00 to $30.00 per week for gas compared to $40.00 - $100.00 per week (depending on price) ads up fast. Now I will save up for some body work and a paint job for the Metro before winter. I was thinking of gutting the car, repairing and repainting everything internally, and hauling the restored shell to a friend of mine who has a paint shop. It runs and drives like a brand new Metro, so it might as well look like one.

Well, I forgot to take the camera with me. This event actually turned out to be the best time we had in a long time. I only got stuck once because the hole was way too deep. I might have a pic of that coming up. I actually got rough with the old truck and it never even hesitated. The tires were the key. I got lots of comments on how well my stock Chevy performed compared to the much larger trucks. All the extra weight in the bed helped out. They all got muddy. I was lucky enough to get these images from someone who was shooting the event.........................
