81 mpg

I got 81 mpg driving 6 miles from the gas station to home. I coasted a lot and it's mostly down hill.

Weather Spotter 11-25-2012 07:08 PM

mostly down hill and you only got 81MPG? how big was the grade?

arcosine 11-25-2012 07:12 PM

about 70 feet lower elevation change in 6 miles, not counting the uphill parts on the interstate that's .2% grade average. I can easily beat that on my bicycle. I also has a few red lights that I stopped for.

Weather Spotter 11-25-2012 08:22 PM

Those red lights are the killer:(

I get infinite mpg (0 l/100) for 4 km on my commuting trip, EOCing down a light slope (2%) at safe speed.

arcosine 11-26-2012 07:02 AM

That's 0.2% not 2%. I get infinite going uphill on my bicycle every day on my commute. That's 6 miles which is 10 km, half in town. If I lived only 4 km from work I'd ride my bike, its good for you.

I whish I was close enought to work. For me it's 22 miles each way. A bit to far to bike.

Yeah true, I don't get infinite on 0.2%. Sorry, didn't mean your result is bad. The 4 km are a part only, my commuting trip is 70 km. You're right about cycling, I ride myself 20.000 km a year but for racing (cat 2). I work in shifts and I just can't get up at 3 am, 5 is already hard enough. I actually go by bike the rare times I work on office hours, 140 km a day is ok.

arcosine 11-26-2012 01:27 PM

I use to commute 40 miles each way, half on crushed limestone, in my homemade fully streamlined recumbent bike, 2 1/2 hours each way was about normal. Then I move closer to work.

Coasting is the bestest way to get superior mpg next to lean burn and good old fashion aero mods.
