'89 Metro - Has 13's... go 14's or bigger?

My '89 Metro has 13 inch wheels on it at the moment. Just currious what the largest sized wheel/tire (diameter wise of course) is that I can fit comfortably under the well.

I think I've read that 14's will fit... but thought I'd ask first. Perhaps bigger even than that?

Is the cost worth the increase in mileage?

What is the bolt pattern on your metro? if you can find some 14" rims that will fit then the 165/65 14" should fit fine... if you can find rims.

i have a line on some free 14's... but tires seem to not be readily available in the 165/65 size.

the guy at the tire shop actually said that this size was discontinued and no one that he knows of is making them.

he said we could try some 175/65's though which he can get easily (has some in stock even).

i can get some 165/65's online... 4 tires and shipping for 220 bucks... but hate to pay the shipping (over 70 bucks) if don't need to.

what do you think?

Last I looked Tirerack.com has the 165/65 tires and they are low rolling resistance tires that were oem on the Honda Insight.
What are the 14" rims from? I thought that metros had a bolt pattern that didn't match any other cars, leaving you with 12" and 13" metro rims.

okay... so apparently i have no idea how to measure wheels. while the diameter i measured on my geo was 13 and on the other wheels was 14... i decided to check the actual tire sizes on the wheels and what do you know... r12's on the geo and r13's on the new wheels. so obviously i was off a bit.

that said... what's the best size tire for a 13 inch wheel on a geo metro?

stock is 155/80 R13, they are also the narrowest I've seen at most stores, if you can find some 145 R13 then get them and if you find any 135 R13 let me know.

I am running 155/80 R13 tires on my Metro and I think they provide good fuel economy and great traction.

Somebody mentioned wanting 135s to go on a 13" wheel. Here you go:

http://store.coker.com/prod/135r13-v...in-sprint.html

Coker Tire is in Chattanooga, so if it isn't too long a ride, you could tool over there and pick them up, save a bundle on shipping.

wow 135-13" , I may have to go that route on the CRX, was going to go to 155-13" when the 165-13's wear out... it's been proven that skinner tires do give better FE

My uncle was searching for the 12" tires so he could get the metro on the road again.. i told him to get 13" and 155-13's for it it will increase his gearing more like the XFI models.. giving better MPG..a and the tires are easier to find... he cant find 12" anywhere.. I have seen many requests for the 12" on craigs list etc too. there must be pretty hard to find nowadays.

I went from 155/80/13 to 175/70/13 and noticed increased rolling resistance. My coasting has decreased quite a bit. The new tires are almost one inch wider, but still the same height. There is more of a selection of tires with 175/70 than 155/80. I only got the 175/70 because some of the roads here have grooved pavement and I felt the 175/70s would keep the car from weaving like a drunk driver. For economy, I'd do the 155/80 tires and live with whatever tread design you have a choice of, if any. I've just started logging MPG here, so we'll see if I can get good MPG with these tires.
