Civic VX owners, help!

does this look like the stock engine for a 92 VX? I only have the one picture to look at. Car is a long drive away from me.

I would like to replace my 98 camry, which cannot really get decent mileage.

Hi skyking, It sure looks like a vx engine from the pic as far as I can tell. Its got the erg box on the firewall and the small intake. o2 sensor for a federal car should have 5 wires and block should be stamped D15Z1 on the front of the engine near the o2 sensor wire bracket.
The only thing I am wondering should a 1992 have v-tec on valve cover. I thought this was only on the 94-95 vx. . I have 2 1992 vx's and neither has v-tec on the valve cover .Hope this helps.

It helps a lot, thank you. I have not contacted the seller but he wants 2100 for it, with scabby paint and needing new exhaust. That's high, and no idea on how many miles on it.

it looks like someone painted a valve cover red and put the words vtec on it it.

the older vx's did not have vtec.

2100 is a pretty good deal - prices are skyrocketing.

Exhaust is an easy cheap fix as it just bolts together, no weird clamps to deal with and that does look like the correct engine, my '92 vx had that same valve cover and everything else under the hood looks stock.
As long as it's not so rusty that the rear bumper is falling off or that you can't jack it up with the jack points then I think it's worth $2,100 and you can always get a quote for exhaust and use that as a bargaining figure, but if you wait around to much someone else is likely to show up and buy it, and there is a good chance that you can do a bunch of repairs to it and turn around sell it and still make money if it turns out not to be a vehicle you like.
