Aero on my 2004 Silverado (for racing)
Hi,
I m new to this forum and after reading some interesting threads. I decided to pose some questions and see if I am on the right track. I plan on racing the truck in the maxton mile and maybe a few other events. From what I can tell these items will help benefit me. Some kind of Aero cover for the bed. A belly pan Blocking out any air openings in the front, grille etc The truck is already lower I plan to go lower. I replaced the mirrors with much smaller ones. I may modify the hood to angle up towards the wind shield Rear diffusers I am wondering about Cover the rear wheel well openings The truck currently has the biggest production motor in it. 8.1 It is a 1500 standard cab short bed which I now understand affects it Any other suggestions because I think I am on the right track? |

Do you have a picture of the truck and what you plan to do with it?
I guess we like pictures around here. Interesting project, what speed are you shooting for? If you're just going for top speed, you could remove the rear brakes for the run. |

i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee97/xx_ed_xx/Sb0mb/Picture20039.jpg Suspension I am switching to when i get back to the states on leave. i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee97/xx_ed_xx/Sb0mb/DSC01575.jpg How it pretty much looks now. I plan on keeping the toneau and making it slope up and still be usable. I am changing the exhaust. 6 speed and working on better brakes. Basically, I'd start shaping it like this guy:

What kind of speed do you think you can run? 150+
My guess is that you don't want too much air under your vehicle. You don't want it to fly. Keep the front low make any spoiler very rigid. |
160 for now
Yeah currently the truck has a 2" 4" drop I may go lower. I plan on doing something similar like the red f350 on here for the front according to the rules i think it can be as low as possible as long as it doesnt come in contact with the racing surface. |

Are there any limits as to what you can do to the truck when rcing it ?
Remove the mud flaps :) You could put on some side skirts between the wheels - maybe even making them as wide as the wheels are and closed on the bottom. Along the same lines you could extend the skirt aft of the rear tyres as a boattail fairing. An air dam under the front bumper. Air deflectors in front of the tires - front only, if you do the wide skirt mod. Tape the gap between the cab and the bed when you go racing. Make everything as low as you dare for racing. |
The rear I can lower some more. I am buying the factory chin spoiler this week. I was thinking of blocking the grille. I wish I had more money before the end of next week that is the last race I can attended before i deploy. I want to make a aero bed cover as well. What about a wing and bed diffuser?
