Anyone EOC with automatic?
Got to thinking about it I really do think I am going to try this mod when I get around to it even though I have an automatic I really think it can handle it. 92 nissan sentra GA16de, not sure of the tranny model but is 4 speed automatic. Tranny has about 250k on it now and fluid is squeaky clean between changes, no shifting problems. So I think I may try it unless someone who is really familiar with these transmissions say for sure that it will kill it.

I would start by seeing what your owners manual says about flat towing
Manual says for automatic transmission:
Observe the following restricted towing speeds and distances -Speeds below 30 mph -Distance less than 40 miles |
...so don't kill it until you're down to 30, and if 40miles is a limitation, I think everyone will want to hear about it.
Yeah I think I am going to push it coasting will be done at a max of 45, thats a 15 mph difference and I am using more advanced fluids than was available in 1992, I mean if it comes down to it I may install a small electric pump to circulate the fluid if that is what it needs.
Total commute is 22 miles and only will be coasting a few spaced out points less than .5 mile each.
Well tomorrow I will start testing, looking at the inventory of the local pick and pull there is a dozen donor cars with manual or auto trans only $75, nothing risked nothing gained.
Why not look into a small electric pump like you said? It shouldn't be very hard to install it.
Yeah I will if I see any hints/signs of issues. But thinking about it, will be coasting for just a moment after fluid was just pumping just slightly above recommended using far superior fluids to stock, I really think it will be fine.

Very shortly, 2 or 3 days, after starting mild EOC 45mph to stop and a few 60mph to 45mph coasts on the highway my tranny light coded, flashing OD off light. 2 weeks later and my car is at the tranny shop getting an overhaul. 145,000 miles with no problems. The indication is that the torque converter is not locking up now. May be coincidental, but really not worth it. My 2 cents, if you are running an automatic and want to coast do engine ON coasting in neutral twards a stop sign, traffic light or landing to park. You have been blessed to get 250k out of the tranny, be good to it unless you are ready for an overhaul anyhow. |
