Attach pizza pan with 1 bolt?
1 Attachment(s)
I have a prototype pizza pan attached to 1 of my wheels. To attach it, I used the plastic lug covers that came stock on Saturns with a bolt through the back and a nut holding the pan onto the wheel. The reason for the bolts facing this way was because of how hard it was to get them to line up with a captive nut (drywall anchor) inside of the cover. I have attached a crappy pic of what I have done so far.
But I have a new idea. What if I got factory wheel covers and cut out the centers so that only the area around and within the nut covers was attached to the wheels. Then I could attach a nut (rivnut maybe) to the back of the cover center and then bolt the pan to the wheel with just 1 bolt. My question is whether this has been attempted before and what the results were? Is 1 bolt enough to attach a pan to the wheels? I'm thinking that the less fasteners I have to deal with, the more inclined I will be to pop off the covers and check tire pressure and also make any other job requiring wheel removal less tedious dealing with such a thing. |
I thought about doing the same thing. I ended up doing this, instead:

Thanks for the links, t vago. My only question would be how well have they held up for you over the past years? I feel like frequent on/off cycles might hurt (crack) the t-shirt/resin causing a too frequent re-do.

That's a valid concern. I cannot answer, because my covers haven't yet gone through a winter.
