Average speeds
 

So what is everyone's average speeds on their daily drives? It takes me between 35 and 40 minutes depending on traffic, to travel 13 miles, for an average barely at 20mph. :mad:

This would not be a bad thing if I could maintain 20mph the whole way there... ;)

On my SG I it would show my tank average between 30-35 mph.

This is my "milk run", from home to work :

If the traffic is goldilox, I can lower my average speed and (usually) increase my MPG. It's ironic because I *need* congestion to maintain a lower average MPH, but the increased congestion puts me at risk of hitting a traffic jam. It's a balance.

3.3 miles, 7 minutes via car, 11 minutes for biking. Those are maximums aiming for fuel (me and the car) conservation. I can bike it in 8 minutes and drive it in 5 minutes. But it's not worth the burn.

Summary: My average sucks too. No highways, never above 40mph.

Going to work or home takes about 40 minutes, and it is 25.6 miles, so 38.4 mph average. Several stops and turns and steep hills, plus a lot of the roads are junk.

How high your average is isn't really important, it's how it compares to your maximum speed during the trip. If you're covering 3.3 miles in 7 minutes, that's an average speed of just under 29mph. Which is good compared to a top of 40. Higher averages vs. top speeds almost always means better FE.

By contrast, my peak speeds will reach as much as 55mph on some hills, and is closer to 40mph on flat ground, yet my average speed is barely 20mph. :(

So really, you\'re doing better than me, despite the shorter drive, and generally colder cycles.

well when you put it that way I\'m sure doing great. But I love driving fast, so I think I\'m doing bad. :P

37 mph. Which is weird because most of my commute is at 50 mph but i guess the slow bits at each end affect things more than i\'d guess.
