Barbara's Learning Curve

I've decided to start a new thread regarding the education of my wife and her ability to improve/learn.
The ScanGauge is hooked up and ready to go.
This is SOOO Cool!
We had to goto the Pharmacy so I offered advice (not always appreciated) while she drove.
Her current driving style keeps her foot on the gas while heading for a stop.
I believe that with feedback from SG she will learn to coast more and maybe start to use Neutral as a forward gear.
What we've learned so far;
N @ stop is .23GPH versus D @ stop is .43GPH. (damn thats high, must be the cold)
Coasting in D gives less MPG than coasting in N and slows you down faster so your glide is shorter
If you go 45mph and shift to N you can see 155MPG
If you mash the go pedal to the floor from a stop you can see 1.1MPG
You should put the MPH gauge up so you don't need to look at speedo and SG
Bear in mind that all of these readings will change a little when the SG is fully calibrated to the car. I need to do some 1/4 tank fills to calibrate fuel parameters.
Everything else is already set to go.
Stay tuned, more to come after a word from our sponsors
S.

Good luck. It's good to see some work on driving efficienctly with automatics too :)

Watching with interest...

PS - what gauges have you got her looking at? My preference is to view both instant & trip (avg) MPG on the 4-gauge screen. You can do this with the add-a-gauge function ("import" the trip avg readout as a new gauge).

You are embarking on the perilous task of teaching a woman how to drive.

We will remember you always.

:D

I take it you got the xgauge upgrade? :)

I am not actually "teaching" her so much as allowing her to realize she can drive more economically.
When she saw the tank results she alone was responsible for, she was not happy.
"Her" Tank - 19.44 MPG
"My" Tank - 25.56 MPG
"Best together" Tank - 24.85 MPG

She asked me how she could get better results. I did not tell her she should have had better results.

With SG in place she is already realizing driving tactics she can change.
I need to put a note here:
My wife is prone to Anxiety Attacks.
They are not fun.
when they occur while driving she will travel @ 5-7 MPH no matter what type of road she is on.
So she stays on the side roads/surface streets.

According to SG this current tank is already over the 28 MPG mark.
will have more info later.

And yes Treb. I have the XGauge unit. Sweet.

Wow! I assume you still have to dial it in when you fill up. Hopefully it's not going to be too far off the mark.
