Best Candidate(s) for Commercially Made Aero Kits?
If you were going to start a company that made aerodynamic pieces, for which vehicle would you make them?
What pieces would you make? Rear wheel skirts for Toyota Prius? Grille block panels for Honda CRXs? 'Fast 'n Furious' spoilers for Dodge Neons? :p |
I have patterns for Versa grillblocks, but I doubt there are enough crazy peoples to buy the parts. I might make a few sets and post them on ebay.

Priuses are a good choice. Someone does this. New Insights as well. Any Civic. Fit, Yaris, etc.
Truck bed caps ;) Are you gonna do it!? |
Grille blocks for any newer cars, especially hybrid ones. Hybrid owners are more likely to want more MPG's out of their cars, so would probably be willing to try something that doesn't look terrible.
|
skyl4rk: You should!
SVOboy: No! Maybe! Probably not! Possibly! We'll see! McTimson: Pretty much what I was thinking. As much as I love the Metro boys and the crazy things they do with their cars, I don't think they're the ones that are gonna buy anything pre-made. |
If you want to, actually, send me a pm! I've got lots of ideas :)

the best choice i think would be things that fit or can be adapted to as much cars as possible. such as wheel covers, small aerodynamic side mirrors or solar engine heaters. maybe start there, and then slowly go to specific items for specific car models.
i have been thinking for some time about a little mechanic or electronic tool you would place on the dashboard, and that using gravity it would make an annoying sound or beep when the driver accelerates or brakes to fast. so you would drive more smoothly to avoid the sound. problems are letting it ignore bumps and up and downhills. |

A better device would hook up to your pedals and beep when it's pushed in more than 80%. |

the same way you can drive smoothly and still use too much gas if you go too high in rpm. ideal would be a system whith a gauge or green orange and red lights that tell you you are going too high in rpm, or either accelerating or braking too fast. and maybe even turning too fast would action the system, avoids big loss of energy and tire wear. for confirmed hypermilers it would be useless, but it would be a great tool for regular drivers to learn it. would be cheaper than a coach and lessons and just as effective. |
Dang, I thought for sure I posted this under the "Aerodynamics" heading of the forum... ;)
